Shatter Sonic

Whoa. Now this is speed! Nine, you've really outdone yourself.

— Shatter Sonic, "Ghost of a Chance"

Shatter Sonic,[1] also known as Prismatic Sonic,[2] is a transformation that appears in the Sonic Prime television series. It is a state of Sonic the Hedgehog, achieved by harnessing the energy of three or four of the Paradox Prism's Shards, specifically the red, green, blue and yellow ones.

Appearance

Shatter Sonic looks highly similar to that of base Sonic the Hedgehog. With the power of three Prism Shards, his appearance remains relatively unchanged, other than that of an chromatic aberration effect on his body. With the power of four Shards, Sonic gains bright magenta highlights on the tips of his quills, eyebrows and backspine, with his eyes turning a similar color, along with neon cyan lighting effects on his gloves, shoes, and tail.

Overview

Sonic achieved this transformation after Nine transferred the Prism Energy of three (later four) Prism Shards to him. Sonic uses this transformation to stop the Prismatic Titan that was about to destroy the Ghost Hill Temple Mountain where he and Nine were.[3]

Powers and abilities

Imbued with the power of four Shards of the Paradox Prism, this transformation increases Sonic's speed and the power of his Spin Attack. In this form, Sonic is fast enough to create afterimages, which can talk and seem to be sentient. He is also fast enough to be in two places at once and high-five himself.

Shatter Sonic is also powerful enough to defeat the Prismatic Titan, which is normally invulnerable to regular attacks, due to him using the power of four Shards.

Weakness

This transformation does not last long, because it requires the energy of the Paradox Prism.

Trivia

  • This is the first time since Sonic and the Black Knight (2009) that Sonic has undergone a new transformation within the main continuity, outside the games.
  • Shatter Sonic is the third transformation that requires the use of a gemstone, in this case, via the Paradox Prism - the other two being Super Sonic, via the Chaos Emeralds, and Hyper Sonic, via the Super Emeralds - and the first of these to use a gemstone that is not affiliated with the Chaos Emeralds in any way.
  • This is the first time in the Sonic franchise that Sonic has had magenta eyes in a transformation.
