Wolf

The Wolf[1] (ウルフ Urufu?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a canine enemy that lives in packs across Ouranos Island.

Appearance

The Wolf is a pack of six black-colored robots each taking the shape of a wolf. Each member boasts a slim build, including a long thin tail and a slender main body and limbs. The thigh part is wider and thicker, and also has a flat surface. The head part is connected to the main body in a straight-line style and has a red glowing eye.

During The Final Horizon, a variant of the Wolf appears during Tiger's trial. This version of Wolf is colored gold and black.

Overview

WolfAssault(Frontiers)

In Sonic Frontiers, the Wolf is an enemy type present in Ouranos Island. On the island, They are found on specific parts of the island walking over a small area in packs of six wolves. When the pack makes eye contact with the player, the wolves of the pack will teleport away and then surround the player from a small distance. There, they will circle around the player at high speed and create a barrier in the form of a wide red ring of energy that the player cannot escape from. While the player is inside this barrier, the wolves will try to attack the player successively by running through them. Each time a wolf attacks, the barrier gets smaller in radius until the player loses automatically when it gets small enough.

Making physical contact with the barrier will harm the player and it also cannot be jumped over. The only way to escape the barrier (and the wolves' assaults) is to Parry each wolf's assault in order to get them immobilized. If the player blocks all of the six wolves' assaults this way, the barrier will dissipate, thus allowing the player to attack the pack directly. If the player fails to parry on one occasion, the wolves that were immobilized will regain control over themselves and assault the player again. If after the barrier goes down the player does not destroy all of the wolves in the pack on time, the remaining wolves will regain control over themselves and then create another barrier around the player (provided that the player didn't leave their area), forcing the player to repeat the same process again on the remainders.

The stronger gold variants in Tiger's Trial in The Final Horizon act much the same as their original counterparts, and can be dispatched in the same manner, but move much faster, giving the player a shorter window to defeat them.

Similarly to other enemies, the Wolves will drop items, ranging from Skill Pieces to Vault Keys.

Powers and abilities

The Wolf's pack can run at high speed. Using this ability and by channeling energy through their bodies, they can erect a near-impossible-to-escape barrier in the form of a red ring of energy while circling around their opponent.

    • However, the first Soldiers encountered in the game also use the Wolf's theme, along with some enemies in Battle Rush mode.
  • The Wolf's theme is a remix of the Tower's theme.
  • The real world inspiration for the Wolf's design likely comes from Boston Dynamics' own robotic dog.
