Black wall

The black wall,^[1] also known as the green wall,^[2] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are black walls with green, glowing details, which can found in all Open-Zone fields.

Description

Black walls are walls with a black color scheme. They are also covered mainly by glowing green details. When Climbing or Wall Running the black walls, they will emit a blue light between themselves and Sonic/Knuckles.

Overview

Black walls are featured exclusively in the Open-Zone, appearing on all five Starfall Islands. The gimmick can be found integrated with the Ancients' ruins, as well part of parkouring sections and even one of the Quests.

In order to Climb the black wall, the player has to jump into it and use . While climbing, the player can also perform a Wall Run, by pressing the Boost button. In some cases though, Dash Panels would be placed on the black wall, thus automating the process.

During some of the Challenges, Sonic would find a small, ruined pillar which, when Cylooped, will expose 3 black walls integrated into the it.

Variant

Red wall

The red wall shares the same colors as the black wall, with the only difference being the green parts being replaced by red. They function identically to the black wall. Though, unlike the latter, the red walls can only be climbed by Knuckles the Echidna and appear exclusively on Ouranos Island during The Final Horizon episode.
