Recovery Smash

If Sonic is thrown back by an attack and successfully execute the on-screen prompt before he hits the ground, he can immediately counter with Recovery Smash.

— Description, Sonic Frontiers[1]

The Recovery Smash[1] (リカバリースマッシュ Rikabarī Sumasshu?) is a move that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a technique used by Sonic the Hedgehog where he spins rapidly at the enemy and follows it up with a kick.

Skill icon for Recovery Smash.

When performing the Recovery Smash, Sonic will not land face down on the ground, instead charging up an attack and then Spin Dashing towards the enemy. Once he hits the enemy, he will launch a diving kick at them, causing weaker enemies to spin as they recoil from the counterattack.

In the gameplay of Sonic Frontiers, the Recovery Smash serves as an unlockable Skill for Sonic purchased from the Skills menu for fifty Skill Points. It can be activated by pressing B/Cross/ after a prompt appears when Sonic gets damage inflicted by certain moves, or when he comes into contact with certain things.

Overview

In gameplay, the prompt only appears when Sonic is knocked back from an attack, or when coming into contact with certain things like the Tower's spinning ring or the spikes generated by the Soldier (red and white only) and the Red Pillar. In terms of attack, this move is identical to the Grand Slam, except the Grand Slam's prompt stays in place for a while, whereas Recovery Smash's prompt disappears after Sonic loses his Rings. In addition, it is notably weaker.
