Portal 4-A or just 4-A, is a Cyber Space stage in Sonic Frontiers. It is the first Cyber Space stage in Ouranos Island during The Final Horizon, and the thirty-first one overall. It is a remix of 1-4.

Description

Main articles: 1-4 and Green Hill

4-A shares the basic Cyber Space theme along with other stages, while presenting floating chunks of islands based on Green Hill Zone, specifically taken from the specific depiction from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations. The majority of background islands contain bushes, flowers and palm trees adorning them, along with wooden fences, blue rocky blocks and totem poles of various types and sizes. As such, all chunks of floating islands have brown checker patterned soils with light green grass. The terrain often contains familiar elements such as giant loops and corkscrews. Many half-pipelines and chunks of cubes are seen in far distance of the sunset background with rapid, blue digitized sparks bypassing the screen to represent the digitized atmosphere of the stage.

Portal location

The entrance Portal to the Cyber Space stage is located to the far south-west of Ouranos Island, in a small collection of houses near the Yellow Chaos Emerald Vault. It requires three Portal Gears for this Portal to connect to Cyber Space.

Gameplay

4-A is a relatively straightforward stage with a small handful of branching paths that lead to the same point. There are many hexagon shaped structures to jump around on and through, and this stage is the first one to feature the Rocket Boost gimmick, which is gained by hitting the small green contains on the stage. There are no Star Posts present in this stage.

Collectable locations

Number Rings

  • Following the wooden hexagonal platforms after the forked path where the Silver Moon Rings are located, the player comes to a large vertical structure with platforms on the outside to climb.
    • Number Ring 5 can be found at the bottom of the structure, in the middle.
    • Number Ring 4 can be found on the right-hand side at the bottom.
    • Number Ring 3 can be found on a platform almost directly above where Number Ring 5 was.
    • Number Ring 2 can be found on a platform on the left-hand side, near the top.
    • Number Ring 1 can be found on a platform in the middle, near the top of the structure.

Silver Moon Rings

  • After going through a large loop near the middle of the stage, the player will come across a forked path made of palling platforms and Rocket Boost containers. The Silver Moon Rings follow a linear path from the start, down the ring fork, and then on the large wooden ramp at the end.

Animals

  • After a line of Dash Panels launching Sonic into the air near the beginning of the stage, the player should drop to the lower path, where a Pocky should be just behind where Sonic lands. The player should then follow the wooden platforms and use a Dash Panel to launch Sonic onto the upper path, where the drop-off zone sits on the edge in the right corner.
  • When the player comes across a large gap that has Rocket Boost containers floating in mid-air before a big loop, they should instead drop down to the bottom path, where a Cucky sits near the edge of the path. The player should follow the left-hand path and use the Dash Panels to launch themselves off the hexagonal structures to the drop-off zone.
  • Immediately after climbing into the large tower near the end, the player should go to platform on the right, where a Pecky awaits. The player should then take the left path to the center of the tower, where the drop-off zone is. Defeating the enemies before escorting the Pecky could be helpful if they attack Sonic too often.

Hidden Goal

  • Following the third animal, take the left path to a series of Springs that lead Sonic higher up the tower. The player should follow the right-hand path upwards to a large upwards ramp that launches Sonic into a series of floating Rocket Boost containers. Aim for the top of the honeycomb structure, where the Hidden Goal sits.

Trivia

  • The hexagon shaped structures, Green Hill aesthetics, the Rocket Boost, and the fact that all enemies within the level are bee-shaped could indicate that this level is a reference to Zone 2 of Desert Ruins from Sonic Lost World.
