Description

The Military Base is an intermediate tower that spawns various military-themed vehicles, which can be bought in the store for Coin 4,000. Levels 0-3 will spawn Humvees of varying strength, Level 4 will spawn a Tank and Level 5 will spawn a Railgun Tank.

Periodically, the Military Base will spawn a unit at the end of the path. The unit will head towards the start of the path until it gets destroyed, damaging enemies along the way. If it reaches the entrance, the unit will disappear. When there are enemies in a unit's range, it will slow down so that it has more time to attack enemies.

For the first two upgrades, the main purpose of this tower is to spawn units that deal direct collision damage to enemies (Humvee and Humvee 2). After Level 3, the unit itself (Humvee 3) can deal damage through ranged weapons, and after Level 4, units spawned by the Military Base can deal ranged splash damage (Tank and Railgun Tank). The explosion is separated into two spheres. Enemies in the inner sphere will be dealt 100% of the stated damage, while the damage in the outer sphere is decreased linearly. Its splash damage deals full damage to enemies with defense. Military Base spawns can damage lead enemies through collision or splash, but not with their mounted guns. Both the tower and units are immune to debuffs. These units cannot be stunned, but they can be damaged by certain enemy abilities.

At Level 4, the Military Base gains an ability, Airstrike, which drops six bombs in a cluster around on a specified path location when used. The bombs cause explosions that damage any enemies within the blast radius. Like all explosions, the explosion is separated into two spheres. Enemies in the inner sphere will be dealt 100% of the stated damage, while the damage in the outer sphere is decreased linearly. Its splash damage deals full damage to enemies with defense. At Level 5, the bombs gain more damage and have a larger blast radius.

There is a limit of five Military Bases per player.

Strategy

  • Upgrading a Military Base to Level 1 reduces the spawnrate by 15 seconds, allowing the unit to spawn in 35 seconds instead of 50.
    • Selling a Military Base will destroy the unit.
  • A few Humvee 2s can easily take out hordes of early game enemies.
  • The Military Base can be an effective counter for enemies with defense, like the Giant Boss and Templar, as they deal full damage when colliding with these enemies.
    • The damage from its cannon and Airstrike also deals full damage to defense enemies. However, the gun damage is still affected.
  • The Airstrike ability unlocked at Level 4 can be very effective at clearing out hordes of enemies.
    • As it deals splash damage, it ignores defense, making it especially useful against enemies like the Giant Boss.
    • It should not be used against single high health enemies, like the Tank, due to its long cooldown.
  • Because of its large placement footprint, it should be placed away from the path as it can take up important space from other towers.
  • It is recommended to use the Farm, Cowboy or Golden Cowboy with Military Base due to it being expensive to upgrade to Level 5.
    • You can also use the DJ Booth to lower the upgrade costs of the Military Base. Make sure it is within the range of the tower itself.
  • Stalling towers like the Electroshocker, Frost Blaster and Freezer pairs well with the Military Base as they slow down enemies before colliding with units, allowing the units to survive longer.
  • The Military Base is not recommended for short maps, such as Dead Ahead, as their long spawnrate makes them more ineffective.
    • In two-pathed maps, only one unit spawns as opposed to two. This unit will go down a random path.
  • Units spawned by the Military Base are not affected by any buffs and debuffs.
    • However, the Airstrike damage is affected by damage buffs, meaning that the Mercenary Base can be used to buff its damage.
      • The Field Medic spawned by it cannot heal or shield any of the Military Base's units.
  • Units spawned by the Military Base are useless against flying as they cannot collide nor detect them.
    • However, the Military Base can still be useful against such enemies because of its Airstrike ability.
    • They also cannot collide with ghost enemies, though the Humvee 3, Tank, Railgun Tank can detect them as it has hidden detection.
    • However, they are effective against lead enemies, as collision deals damage to lead enemies.
      • Additionally, the cannon splash damage can also deal damage to lead enemies.
  • If the units from the Military Base are very close to each other, they may be able to support each other with their gunfire, thereby reducing the amount of enemies to collide into, and allowing them to survive longer.
    • However, if this is your main source of DPS, the long gap between the spawn times may prove to be a detriment.
  • The Military Base's units are not very effective against large crowds of high health enemies, like the Breaker4, as their high amounts of health mean that the units will be killed quite quickly if collided with.
    • Its Airstrike ability can be quite useful against them, but do note that it has a rather long cooldown.

Trivia

  • The Military Base is based on Tower Battles's Patrol.
  • The Military Base was originally meant to deploy soldiers upon the vehicle's destruction, these would attack enemies but would not be damaged by them. They would only last for a few seconds before despawning.
    • At the final Level, these soldiers were planned to have a bazooka.
  • Before the Overhaul Update, the spawnrate of the Military Base could be decreased by a Commander, it was through an unconventional method. The stated buff was subtracted from the spawnrate (an example is a 25% buff on a Level 5 Military Base; the spawnrate would decrease from 45 to 44.75).
    • As 44.75 seconds rounds up to 45 seconds, there was no noticeable decrease in spawn time.
      • Interestingly, the Commander's Call to Arms ability reduced the spawnrate of units from the Military Base further, but even this buff could not produce a noticeable decrease in spawnrate.
  • Humvees, Tanks, and Railgun Tanks will be destroyed if their respective Military Base is sold.
  • The Military Base was made unusable between the 21st of July 2021 and 22 July 2021, because if multiple units spawned very close to each other it would lag out the game, giving players an unfair advantage. This glitch no longer works.
    • You could still equip the Military Base in your loadout, despite it being unusable. However, placing it would make the following message appear: "Military Base placement has been temporarily disabled. This unit is faulty, allowing players to gain an unfair advantage."
  • The Level 5 Military Base used to be the most expensive upgrade in the game for quite a long time. When the Duck Hunt Update released, it added the Engineer tower, which had a more expensive upgrade cost.
    • Later with updates, more towers would get upgrades that were more expensive than the Military Base's Level 5 upgrade, such as the Turret or Accelerator.
  • The aircraft responsible for orchestrating the airstrike is a Northrop Grumman B-2 'Spirit' stealth bomber.
  • The arrow on the Airstrike's marker is the tangent line of the plane's flight of where it drops the bombs. It is based on the line passing through the coordinates of the player's camera and the selected path.
    • If multiple Airstrikes are selected at once, the planes fly on equiangular flight paths relative to each other.
  • Oddly enough, the Military Base tower itself has range, despite the fact that it only spawns units.

Notes

  1. Units spawned by the Military Base can collide with Hidden enemies from Level 0.
  2. Through splash damage, flying enemies may be hit indirectly if another detectable enemy is nearby, but units from this tower can never directly target flying enemies.
  3. Normal Damage is the ranged weapon attack, not the health of vehicle or splash damage.
  4. 4.0 4.1 Number is the damage dealt in the inner explosion sphere. Splash damage is decreased linearly if the enemy is in the outer explosion sphere.
  5. Cannon DPS assumes only one enemy is hit and receives full splash damage.
  6. DPS dealt with its collisions. It is calculated as Health ÷ Spawnrate.
