Ruru's Papa!? Amour, That Is... (ルールーのパパ！？アムール、それは... Rūrū no Papa!? Amūru, Sore wa...)? is the 40th episode of HUGtto! Pretty Cure and is the 724th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.
Summary
The girls are surprised to discover Doctor Traum is Ruru's father, and he reveals some surprises of his own regarding her creation and the future.
Major Events
- It is revealed that Hugtan used to be a Pretty Cure named Cure Tomorrow, who fought alongside three other Cures against Criasu in the future. Cure Tomorrow also freed Harry from Criasu's imprisonment, and restrained his monster form with his chain. While escaping Criasu's imprisonment alongside Harry, she used the Mirai Crystal White to invoke the Mother's powers, sending the two to the present. As a result, she reverted into her current form of Hugtan.
- It is also revealed that Doctor Traum created Ruru after losing his daughter.
- The Cures learn that Hugtan, Harry, and Ruru will have to return to the future soon after Criasu is defeated, which devastates Emiru.
Synopsis
Doctor Traum lays on the floor as Ruru refuses to believe he could be her father. He eventually gets up to reveal that it was he who actually sent them to the future- a test that he planned on coming to discuss with them to see how it went. He uses a cute little mech -and a Traum puppet- to explain Criasu's goals of preventing the future from happening by collecting prickly powerer. But with the legendary Pretty Cure coming in to stop him, George began to seek out the Mother Goddess, whose love embraces the future and Cure Tomorrow, the girl bearing her powers. George is trying to erase this girl in order to prevent the power from reaching the future.
Harry prevents Doctor Traum from saying anymore and requests taking over, recalling how he went berserk and become a monster from the despair of losing HariHari Township and seeing everyone suffer. He was imprisoned, but one day Cure Tomorrow appeared before him. Feeling his pain, she apologized for being unable to change the past, but she encouraged him to believe that they could change the future. She reached out to him and Harry was purified, and she created the chain necklace he wears to keep him from changing back. But in their attempt to get away she was attacked and imprisoned just as Harry had been, and they attempted to manipulate her to convince her to give up. She refused to listen, encouraging Harry to break her free and they attempted to run away again. Bicine and Doctor Traum confronted them but Tomorrow pulled out the white Miral Crystal to plead for Mother's help, causing them to be thrown through a portal leading them to the past. She tried to convince Harry to leave her to search for the Cure, but he refused, causing her to become Hugtan.
The girls are astonished now that they have been told he truth. Harry apologizes for being so secretive, but he was waiting until they found more of Mother's power. Hana assures him that everything will be fine, because they promised to protect the future. Doctor Traum isn't convinced this will be so easy though, considering Criasu seems to be aware of the truth, and they probably wont hold back in trying to get Hugtan. But seeing the girls refusal to give up eases his worries. Ruru goes on to ask him why he had a change of heart so suddenly, angrily telling him off for having discarded her without a care in the world. For him to want to be her father now is unforgivable. She runs out of Beauty Harry and the girls attempt to find her. Harry gives Traum some tea and he mentions that he never expected Ruru to gain a heart like she did. But hearing her words when he was purified made him want to reach out to her.
Ruru sadly eats some takoyaki until Hana locates her, gently chastising her for not answering her PreHeart. She sadly expresses how confused she is over the heart she gained, and how she feels many things she isn't able to understand; things an android doesn't need. As Hugtan attempts to ease her sadness, Hana goes on to compliment her name Ruru Amour. She goes on to explain that her name, Hana, was chosen after the wild flowers surrounding them, and how her parents hoped for her to grow up strong and healthy like them. She points out that Amour means Love, and maybe Doctor Traum felt love for Ruru when he made her. Suddenly the ground begins to shake, and Traum appears in a mech searching for her. She's quite embarrassed by this display, but she agrees to give him a chance.
Traum apologizes for being so contradictory as she attempts to make sense of his words. He goes on to bring up her creation and how she was a lot of trouble for him. While her body is the same as it is now, but on the inside she was still a child who needed to learn a lot. She caused much destruction, and she couldn't understand things like greetings, even a hug seemed to be too much for him. He was so frustrated because Ruru couldn't be the daughter he wanted, and he became startled as he thought of his real daughter. He denounced Ruru as a failure, so he erased her data and put distance between them. Ruru becomes saddened but Traum assures her that she wasn't to blame, he wasn't able to handle the truth and separate her from the girl she was made to replace, and he never thought she would grow a heart and feel things like his real child could. He was jealous because of the Pretty Cure and their ability to overcome everything. But seeing them for himself made him realize the error of his ways.
Suddenly, Emiru shows up and she attempts to calm the situation by suggesting they sing together. However, Ruru assures her its unnecessary because everything has been fixed- but she laughs and agrees to it anyway. As they sing together, Traum remembers Ruru's awakening, and he goes on to tell her that her name and heart are hers alone. Ruru is very happy hearing this, but suddenly a Mou-Oshimaida appears to attack. The girls reunite and transform into Pretty Cure to fight it off after declaring to Gelos that they will protect Hugtan. Their fight begins against the large perfume monster and it manages to corner Amour, but before it can hurt her, he appears in his mech to protect her. Gelos instructs it to crush him, but in this moment Amour is able to free herself and blast it away. The girls release Mother Heart and use Tomorrow With Everyone to purify it.
Doctor Traum decides to leave now that everything has been settled. However, Ruru tells him that while she isn't fully acceptive of him yet, but she truly believes they can work it out and asks that they share a meal some time. Traum is very happy, but he requests that she refer to him with father-y terms and she heavily refuses. The girls feel at ease until it dawns on them that sometime, Hugtan will return to the future. They feel saddened, and Emiru is completely crushed realizing that Ruru will also be leaving one day.
