  • It is revealed that Yuki is afraid of snakes.

Synopsis

Mayu is petting Yuki and gushing over how cute she is when Yuki jumps on her desk. Suddenly, she sees a snake and freaks out before hiding behind Mayu, but she lies and says it's nothing. Then, Komugi, Iroha, and Satoru arrive at Mayu's door and invite her to join their group for the Tsuchinoko Tracking Competition, and Mayu wonders what one is.

Iroha and Satoru explain that a tsuchinoko is a mysterious snake-like creature, but no one has actually ever seen one. It resembles a snake, but its body is wider than a normal one. There have also been a few witness reports on them, hence why Iroha is excited to enter the competition. They manage to get Mayu on board, but Yuki at first declines until Mayu says she'll be happy if she came, and she joins them.

The group arrives at the Tsuchinoko Tracking Competition, where there are lots of booths making it resemble a festival. Mayu's mother Sumire even tries selling some of her silky powder she claims will help track one. Many people have gathered from everywhere to look for a tsuchinoko, and Mayor Washio, who organized the event, is looking forward to it the most. He gets the crowd excited and the competition begins.

Everybody starts looking for a tsuchinoko and the Cures are surprised to see Satoru using a microphone and headphones to try and hear one in the bushes, and even tries dowsing for one as well. Komugi turns into her dog form to sniff one out, but befriends a Shiba Inu instead. While everyone else continues searching, Yuki is uninterested and just watches them the entire time until lunchtime.

The group gets ready to eat after Komugi shows everyone some Daifuku-shaped apples she and Iroha made. Just as they're about to eat, Mey Mey calls them to ask them how Niko's egg is doing, and Komugi reveals she brought the egg along with her, thinking it felt lonely. Mey Mey gets angry about this and comes out the Kiraniko Trunk to take care of the egg. The group explains what they've been doing and Mey Mey reveals that there are a lot of tsuchinoko at Niko Garden. Satoru becomes the most interested and asks Mey Mey tons of questions about the tsuchinoko, and he tries his best to answer them all. Iroha wants to befriend one, but Mey Mey notes that they can be shy.

Just before he's about to mention the tsuchinoko's powers, Niko's egg falls out of his lap and the others try to catch it, but it keeps slipping out of their hands. When the egg lands near Yuki, her cat instincts kick in and she swats it away, sending it rolling down a hill until it falls into a hole. Mey Mey freaks out and runs to the hole to try and reach for the egg, but it's too deep. To make matters worse, a Garugaru egg in the hole starts to hatch, and the Cures have to transform. Wonderful attempts to go in the hole, but she can't fit. Then, Nyammy gets the idea of calling upon the power of the Kirarin Hamster, which allows the Cures to shrink and jump inside the hole.

The Cures reach the cavern and find both Niko's egg and the Garugaru egg, which hatches into a snake. Nyammy screams in horror while the Garugaru swallows up Niko's egg and the other Cures alert Satoru and Mey Mey. As they're about to get the egg back, they notice Nyammy cowering in fear and they tell her not to push herself, but she insists that she's fine. Friendy gets a closer look at the Garugaru and figures out that it's actually a tsuchinoko. Then, the angered Garugaru uses its power to turn most of Friendy's and Lillian's bodies to stone.

The Garugaru attacks again and Nyammy gets Lillian out of the way, but Lillian notices she looks frightened. On the surface, Mey Mey worries about the Cures while Satoru digs another hole. Wonderful attempts to calm the Garugaru down, but it also turns her to stone. With most of the Cures immobile and Nyammy still scared, things weren't looking good.

Then, Nyammy suddenly musters up enough courage to battle the Garugaru and sends it flying back with a Nyammy Shield. The Garugaru attempts to turn her to stone, but it doesn't work because she's closed her eyes to avoid looking at it. She uses her other senses to evade the Garugaru's attacks. Wonderful then tells her to stroke it to calm it down, but Nyammy opens her eyes and looks at the Garugaru attack, and becomes afraid all over again. Then, Satoru finally manages to finish digging his hole and the sunlight frees the other Cures, allowing Nyammy and Lillian to purify the Garugaru with Amity Lumiere. Niko's egg is recovered and the Garugaru is turned back into a Niko Tsuchinoko. After the group meets the tsuchinoko, Wonderful and Friendy send it back to Niko Garden.

The competition ends without anyone finding a tsuchinoko, but Iroha and Satoru are confident there should be one hiding in Animal Town that'll be found in the future. Mayu thanks Yuki for saving her despite being scared, but when Yuki hears something rustling in the bushes, she freaks out again.
