Middle School Student Komugi! (こむぎ、中学生だワン！ Komugi, Chūgakusei da Wan!)? is the 9th episode of Wonderful Pretty Cure! and is the 977th episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.
Summary
Thanks to a Niko Diamond miracle, Komugi is now able to go to school with Iroha. She immediately becomes popular, but after eating lunch she gets sleepy and turns back into a dog.

Synopsis
Komugi is dreaming about a lesson involving how many treats she could eat until she's full when Mey Mey suddenly wakes her up. She and Iroha are surprised to see him in their room, and he pulls a school uniform and a bookbag out of his wool. He announces that Komugi will be attending school now thanks to a miracle from the Niko Diamond, allowing her to bypass the usual procedures to enroll. Mey Mey explains what the Niko Diamond is, but the Cures are too distracted by the uniform. Komugi wears the top and starts running while Iroha tries to catch her, all the while Mey Mey gets upset again for being ignored once again.
That morning, Komugi happily heads to school with Iroha, but Iroha is worried. Once they arrive, Komugi greets the students outside, but they all have no idea who she is. Komugi then comes across a soccer field and easily catches a ball someone is trying to kick into the net. Iroha catches up with her and pats her head, but quickly realizes what she's doing and apologizes to the soccer team for interrupting their practice.
In class, Kiyoshi announces they have another transfer student, and Komugi greets the class by barking. After introducing herself, she takes the questions she receives too literally and even says she prefers wet food over dry, which causes Iroha to internally freak out. When Komugi is asked about her surname, Iroha starts to panic again until Satoru answers that it should be "Inukai" and pretends that the two are cousins, which Iroha goes along with. Then, one of the students calls Komugi out, and she recognizes him as the boy who kicked the soccer ball she caught. The boy introduces himself as Ikari Shou and he challenges Komugi.
At the soccer field, Shou asks Komugi if she could be the goalkeeper. She doesn't know what soccer is, so Satoru and Iroha explain to her how to play it. Komugi thinks of it like a game of fetch, and Shou vows to get a goal past her. The match begins, and Komugi easily blocks all of Shou's shots. He's disappointed that he couldn't score a goal, but Komugi still wants to play, and the rest of the team is impressed by her performance.
As the day goes on, Komugi's dog instincts continue to kick in. She starts to beg when Mayu gives her back an eraser she dropped, she walks towards a butterfly in the window, she gets on her knees and howls during music class, and messes up a blackboard with the erasers. When lunchtime arrives, everyone shares some of their food with Komugi and almost starts eating it like a dog, but Satoru gives her a spoon to use.
After lunch, Komugi starts feeling tired and, much to Iroha's shock, suddenly turns back into a dog. Iroha hopes no one saw what happened and quickly picks Komugi up. Mayu walks up to Iroha and asks if anything's wrong, and Iroha tries to hide Komugi from her. She lies that she's wondering where Komugi has gone, but Mayu notices one of Komugi's ears sticking out. Iroha tries to hide her again, but Komugi's uniforms slips off to reveal her, which causes Iroha to panic even more. Mayu assumes that Komugi followed Iroha from home, and Iroha makes a quick getaway while saying she'll bring Komugi back home. Elsewhere, Shou is training to get a goal past Komugi when he finds a strange egg.
Iroha and Satoru let Komugi rest for the lunch break. As Komugi sleeps, Satoru tells Iroha how excited she must have been to go to school with her. Then, Komugi wakes up and sniffs out Shou's scent. The trio head to a lake and find Shou running around it while balancing something on his head. Satoru quickly realizes that it's a Garugaru egg, and they have to get it back before it hatches.
Shou tells them he found that the egg is perfect for balance practice because of its size and hopes it'll help him beat Komugi. Satoru tries to convince Shou that it's an animal egg, but he runs out of breath, so Iroha picks up the slack. Komugi again almost reveals what it actually is while Shou falls over, leaving Komugi to catch the egg on her head. Shou tries catching up with her, but he's also exhausted. He starts chasing after her again after taking a break, but Komugi returns after running around the entire school. It is then that the Garugaru egg hatches into a duck Garugaru and lands on top of Komugi. After she pops out of its fluffy down, she and Iroha transform.
The Garugaru goes to swim in the lake and the Cures are distracted by its cuteness. It takes advantage of the situation by firing water towards them, but they dodge the attack in time. After the Cures evade several more of its attacks, the Garugaru attempts to squish them again, but they are able to toss it back into the air. They also try to hold on to it, only for the Garugaru to throw them off by bouncing. As the Cures try to think of a way to catch it, Satoru suggests that Wonderful should act like a goalkeeper and catch it with her hands. Wonderful remembers how she was able to catch the soccer ball and figures out what Satoru means. Friendy goads the Garugaru to attack and summons her Ribbon Barrier to send it flying while Wonderful uses her Puni Puni Barrier to catch it. The Cures then use Friend Liberale to purify the Garugaru, turning it back into a Niko Duck and returning it to the Niko Garden.
At the end of the day, Shou meets up with Komugi and asks if she wants to join the soccer club, but she can't today because she plans on going on a walk with Iroha. Shou is confused, but he stills vows to win against her someday. Komugi says she had fun today, but Iroha reminds her that school is not just for fun and that she has to sit still and study or else she'll have to leave because of low test scores. Nonetheless, Komugi stills want to school with Iroha and she's glad that they can go together now.
