Connecting Bonds, Friendly Tact! (つながるキズナ フレンドリータクト！ Tsunagaru Kizuna Furendorī Takuto!)? is the 5th episode of Wonderful Pretty Cure! and is the 973rd episode of the Pretty Cure franchise overall.
Summary
Komugi meets a girl named Ema and her Pomeranian puppy and is reminded of her puppy days. As she is feeling gratitude to Iroha for caring for her, a new Garugaru appears.

Synopsis
One morning, while going on their walk, Komugi and Iroha meet a young girl named Ema and her Pomeranian, Pon. Ema is struggling to get Pon to walk, so Iroha approaches them and explains that it's hard at first for puppies to go on walks. Iroha asks if she could interact with Pon, and Ema's mother allows it. Iroha quickly gets along with Pon, which makes Komugi jealous. Iroha then offers Ema and Pon to visit her family's pet salon. Meanwhile, a Garugaru egg incased in ice slowly starts cracking.
Ema and Pon arrive at the salon where Iroha introduces them to Tsuyoshi, who is a pet groomer, to see if he could help them. Ema explains how Pon doesn't like her leash yet, leading her to carry Pon on walks instead. Tsuyoshi says that it's good that Ema is helping Pon adjust to going outside, but Ema is still worried that Pon will never get used to a leash. Iroha adds that Komugi took a while to get used to her leash too, but she helped Komugi get used to it by having her sniff the leash, praising her, and practicing walks inside until she stopped being afraid. Iroha concludes that the most important thing is that is for Ema and Pon to be friends, and that a leash is a symbol of trust. Ema promises to take Iroha's advice before her family takes their leave.
Komugi had forgotten that she used to hate going on walks. She also doesn't remember much from before Iroha rescued her. It is then that Iroha remembers how originally Komugi would stay with her until they found her original owner. Youko thought it would take a while for Komugi to warm up to Iroha because she was injured not just physically, but spiritually as well. Despite this, Iroha still wanted to befriend Komugi. The two quickly became close once Iroha brought her in, but when they tried to use a leash for the first time, Komugi became scared. One day, Iroha found one that Komugi might like, and she accepted it. After going for a practice walk, Iroha's parents complimented how much Komugi trusted her. Back in the present, Iroha asks Komugi why she felt okay with using a leash, and Komugi says it's because Iroha chose it for her and it helps them to be closer to each other.
Meanwhile, Mayu is ecstatic that she received a gift from Iroha and tries to think of what to give her in return. After hugging Yuki again to calm herself down, Mayu gets an idea and starts drawing it up. As Komugi and Iroha continue their conversation, a Garugaru egg hatches and Komugi senses its presence. Elsewhere, Ema and her family run away after seeing spotting the penguin Garugaru standing on an ice floe in the ocean.
The Cures meet up with Satoru and figure out it's a penguin because of it sliding on the ice it created. The attacks also cause the area to get colder. The Cures transform and jump on to the ice, but they almost immediately lose their balance and start slipping on it, making it difficult for them to catch the Garugaru. Wonderful starts sliding backwards, which gives Friendy the idea that they should slide on the ice instead. They catch up to the Garugaru and grab onto it, but it stands up and fires an ice beam from the gem on its forehead to create a slide that it rides on to dive in the ocean, much to the Cures' shock.
Satoru mentions how fast penguins can swim while the Cures wait for the Garugaru to emerge from underwater. Once it does, they try to chase after it again, but it knocks them over and creates an ice bridge to lead itself to town. Wonderful has Friendy launch her on to the bridge and she catches up to the Garugaru, but part of the bridge collapses and it throws her off. Friendy tries to take Wonderful's hand, but they lose grip and Wonderful starts to fall towards the ocean. Suddenly, her Wonderful Pact glows and her leash comes out. Friendy grabs it and before they know it, they are holding hands. As the bridge starts to collapse more, Wonderful feels closer to Friendy now that they're holding hands, similar to how the leash is normally a symbol of trust, and Friendy thinks the same thing.
Just as the bridge breaks, the Mirror Stone glows and helps the Cures to float in mid-air. Then, the leash flies away and draws a giant ribbon in the sky, which turns into a pair of Friendly Tacts. Friendy wonders if the leash turned into them, while Wonderful deduces they were formed by their friendship. The Cures take the wands and Friendy hears the Kirarin Rabbit tell her to use their power. Friendy then uses Help! Kirarin Animal! to summon the Kirarin Rabbit's power, which gives her giant rabbit ears to allow her to hear where the Garugaru is. Wonderful attempts to call upon the Kirarin Rabbit also, but nothing happens. Friendy figures out what direction the Garugaru is and the two of them embrace it right as it emerges from the water again, purifying it and turning it back into the Kirarin Penguin.
After returning the Kirarin Penguin to the Niko Garden, Iroha tells Satoru how happy she is that Komugi can talk now because she always wanted to know how Komugi feels. Satoru replies that he's happy when Iroha's happy, which flatters her. Meanwhile, Komugi wonders why she hasn't been able to use the Friendly Tact yet, but Iroha takes her hand in hopes that they could go on more walks together no matter what form Komugi is in.
