Synopsis

Sango is helping her mother put out the new spring line of cosmetics before school. There, she and Manatsu discuss their decisions regarding school clubs when some classmates join them with suggestions. Sango thinks they all sound like fun but Manatsu likes everything and can't make up her mind.

Manatsu prepares to head out to do some shopping with her school friends. She invites Laura, if she behaves. Laura initially rejects by saying she has to rest, but she seems to want to go and is hoping Manatsu will ask again. She doesn't, much to her disappointment. Manatsu excitedly makes her way through town until reaching the Marine Mall, where the others are waiting. She compliments their clothing style and the girls head to their first place, a very cute accessories and decoration shop. Her friends suggest they buy matching charms, but while Sango simply remarks on how nice they look, Manatsu finds a lot of things she wants to get. She playfully hops on the light-up floor tiles, and to their surprise the girls find their teacher. She attempts to fix a mannequin and Manatsu rushes to help her while the others compliment their Teachers clumsiness.

The girls head to the ice cream shop and Sango decides to get the strawberry chocolate that her friends got. But Manatsu goes with the tropical mango instead. It's then Sango overhears a young girl express disappointment over the shop being out of strawberry chocolate now. She doesn't want any other flavor, but Sango kindly offers her the ice cream she has. Once they finish the girls ask about the Aozora Aquarium where Manatsu's mother works and the group decide to go there next. They observe the cute and pretty sea creatures -but nobody likes the isopod except for Manatsu- when Sango finds a wallet someone dropped. She goes to return it to the owner while Manatsu tries to impress her friends with another fish that only she seems to like, and they notice that she is missing.

Sango nervously wanders around the aquarium trying to locate the other girls. She isn't sure what to do, but she hears singing from the door nearby. She steps outside and locates the aquarium pool, where Laura is freely swimming. She turns just in time to see Sango staring at her, and Sango compliments her by calling her cute. Laura is very happy by this and doesn't mind speaking to her after she recalls seeing her with Manatsu at school. Sango asks if she is a robot, and Laura comes out of the water to let her feel her tail fin. Sango keeps calling her cute, and Laura offers her a chance to become a Pretty Cure, but the Tropical Pact doesn't react to her. Laura takes it back and hides hearing Manatsu and the others searching for her. Laura hides in the Aqua Pot until the cost is clear, and the girls return inside to observe the Dugong. This leads them to assume mermaids must have silly faces, due to the theory that they share a relation with them. They share a laugh and ask Sango for her opinion, and she can't bring herself to disagree. It's then Manatsu recalls the Penguin Show will be starting so the group head off.

At home Manatsu informs a disinterested Laura about her day. She accuses Laura of being lonely without her, which she heavily denies. Manatsu suggests they look for Pretty Cure tomorrow.

Sango sadly looks outside the window of her bedroom, ready for bed. She thinks about the cute mermaid from earlier and wonders why she said what she did.

At school the girls are waiting in line for lunch, and they decide to get fruit sandwiches. Manatsu would rather have yakisoba bread though, then she suggests they eat on the roof. The others do not want to though, because its warm today. She decides to go on her own instead, and Sango asks if she can come with her. Manatsu agrees and on the roof, they sit down to eat, along with Laura, from inside the Aqua Pot. She listens as Sango admits to feeling jealous of Manatsu for being able to openly speak and do what she wants. She doesn't have the courage to do that. Back in kindergarten they planted tulips, she wanted to plant a purple one, but everyone else chose pink and she felt left out.

Laura remarks on how stupid this is, startling the girls as the Aqua Pot falls out of Manatsu's pocket. She gets excited, attracting the attention of the other students, so she grabs it and leads Sango to a private area so that they can freely talk. After catching Manatsu up to speed, Sango once again compliments Laura, who responds by telling her to "believe in your cute". Sango doesn't understand but Manatsu thinks she would make a great Pretty Cure candidate. She is very kind and makes friends easily, and Sango asks to know what a Pretty Cure is. Manatsu explains how Pretty Cure are legendary warriors who save the world from evil, in this case the Witch of Delays. Laura has been searching for Pretty Cure, and she argues that because the Compact didn't shine when Sango held it, she probably isn't fit for the position. Sango feels saddened as she admits her lack of confidence, and Manatsu pulls out her lipstick. She suggests Sango try makeup as the boost she needs.

The girls are leaving school when they witness several frightened people fleeing from a nearby pool. Manatsu rushes to the pool while the others remain behind, and Sango listens as their friends recall that a mermaid was near the last attack, causing them to wonder if a mermaid is actually controlling them and may be evil. Sango snaps that they aren't, and she tells her friends that they are also very pretty. She runs into the pool to locate Manatsu, who releases Laura from the Aqua Pot before transforming into Cure Summer. Sango is surprised as a fight breaks out, and she takes shelter nearby while watching Summer defend Laura from the monster. She admires her cute appearance and how strong she is and recalls what Manatsu told her earlier about using makeup. Just then, a large bag of trash is thrown at Summer, knocking her back into the water against Laura.

Sango comes to their defense, and against their warnings to run she refuses. Her resolve to protect them causes a ring to appear on her finger and the Tropical Pact responds and floats over to her. Sango uses it to transform into Cure Coral. Coral observes her strange new appearance as Summer rejoices, and the Yaraneeda resumes its attack. Coral runs in front of her and crosses her fingers, causing a large mark to appear that blocks the attack. With that, the girls hold hands and force the garbage bin monster down by kicking it, giving Laura a chance to take back the motivation power. The monster uses a beam against the girls, which Coral deflects once more. She refuses to run away and Summer's lipstick comes out of her pocket, summoning a purple duplicate for Coral. It transforms into the Heart Rouge Rod and she uses Mokomoko Coral Diffusion.

As everything returns to normal, Summer embraces Coral. The girls rejoin their friends and assure them that everything is okay, and the group head out to shop again. They admire the various charms and Sango happens to see one that she likes, compared to the ones the others like. She voices this and the other girls agree that it is cute before heading inside. Sango happily takes out her brand new Pretty Cure items to admire them, then Manatsu takes her hand in her own while saying they must do their best.
