Gelos (ジェロス Jerosu)? is a former villain from HUGtto! Pretty Cure. She worked for the Criasu Corporation in the Azababu branch. In episode 49, she returned to the future as a young girl.
Bio
Appearance
Gelos is a tall woman with short dark green hair and red highlights, styled in a bob. She has yellow eyes and wears noticeable purple eyeshadow and lipstick. She also has a beauty mark on the lower corner of her left eye. She wears a long dark red dress with black sleeves, and a dark yellow coat hangs on her shoulders like a cape. Additionally, she has on short dark red stiletto-heeled platform boots.
From episode 34 to episode 45, Gelos takes on her dark form, which includes spiky hair. She wears a dark red jacket with dark yellow spikes and a black corset, along with a long black skirt. She sports a dark yellow choker around her neck and wears dark red knee-highs and black heel boots.
As a temporary Cure in episode 48, she has a gold heart patterned tiara, puffy hair, and white pom-pom earrings.
As a child in the reversed future, Gelos has shorter hair with a beige triangular hairclip pinned on the side of her head.
Personality
In spite of her delightful exterior, Gelos hates emotions like friendship and love and always fears of losing her youthful beauty. She is also supercilious and ungrateful as she disregarded JinJin & Takumi and would rather fire them despite having the two of them to serve her loyally.
However, rejecting the importance of emotions is proven to be her undoing and eventual downfall. Due to wanting to get rid of Jinjin & Takumi for her own standing and selfish reasons, she ironically got rid of the ones who genuinely cares for her. This eventually led to her descend towards madness due to rejection from others.
It was later revealed that the reason behind Gelos' desire to stop time so as to prevent herself from aging was due to her perceiving that she was only loved when young. Fortunately, JinJin & Takumi intervened in time, helping her realize that it was not entirely true and that she'll still have love within her no matter the age. This results in Gelos breaking down in tears of joy and distress, giving the Cures an opening to purify her.HuPC45
Relationships
- Listol: Her superior. She usually doesn't respect him much, despite their statuses' difference.
- Papple: Her former colleague and rival. After Papple discovered her boyfriend having an affair with Gelos, she fell into despair and left the company.
- JinJin & Takumi: Her former subordinates whom she regards as worthless. She even mercilessly punished them for toying with Doctor Traum's prototype invention by calling them as her slaves and forcing them to attack the Cures. However, she now accepts the two to serve her again after her purification.
- George Kurai: Her boyfriend who cheated on Papple to have an affair with Gelos. They are presumably no longer in a relationship following her defeat.
Etymology
"Gelos" is a play on "Lost Generation", a reference to the era she's from (see trivia item below). Her name is also a pun on the Japanese pronunciation of the adjective "jealous".
History
In her past, Gelos used to be friends with JinJin and Takumi.HuPC45 However, after she joined Criasu with them, she started treating them worse.
Gelos first appears before Aisaki Masato, and turns him into an Oshimaida.HuPC19 She is then transferred to the Azababu branch office,HuPC21 and later gets promoted to the main manager position of the branch.HuPC24 She later steals George from Papple, which leads to Papple turning herself into an Oshimaida.HuPC22
She also appears at a night pool to turn two boys, who don't care about their own safety, into Oshimaidas that she then strengthens. She then takes off while complaining about her own loss.HuPC24
Soon, Gelos grows dissatisfied with JinJin and Takumi, and decides to fire them. When she learns that they've been meddling with Doctor Traum's prototype, she forcibly turns both of them into an Oshimaida. She even tells the Cures that JinJin and Takumi are only her slaves, rather than her friends.HuPC31 Eventually, she goes insane and gains her dark form, becoming more twisted than before.HuPC34
Later on Christmas, Gelos arrives uninvited, and turns herself into a Mou-Oshimaida by swallowing another prototype invention of Traum's. However, JinJin and Takumi return to her side, telling her that she is always their friend no matter what age she is. Realizing that both men care about her, she breaks down into tears, giving the Cures the chance to purify her with Tomorrow With Everyone. She then gets to enjoy Christmas with both of them afterwards.HuPC45
Gelos later assists the Cures on confronting GeorgeHuPC47, and later temporarily becomes a Cure herself when all hope seems lost.HuPC48 In the end, she returns to the future with her former colleagues, and reappears as a child with Charaleet, JinJin and Takumi 12 years later.HuPC49
Abilities
Like her colleagues, she calls forth a victim's Prickly Powerer with the words "Hope for tomorrow, begone! Negative Wave!" (明日への希望よ消えろ!ネガティブウェーブ! Asu e no kibō yo kiero! Negatibu Uēbu!)?. She can then turn this power into an Oshimaida/Mou-Oshimaida with the words "I'm ordering you! (Mou-)Oshimaida!" (発注!(猛!)オシマイダー! Hacchū! (Mō!) Oshimaidā!)?.
In episode 34, she can change into her dark form.
In episode 47, she is shown to have skills in piloting a motorboat, as she's capable of bypassing the Mou-Oshimaida's attacks with the Cures as her passengers.
Trivia
- In contrast with Papple, who is from the "Bubble" era, Gelos's style is from the immediately following period called the "Lost Decade" (about 1991-2000, or sometimes 1991-2010).
- Gelos is modeled after Blouson Chiemi (ブルゾンちえみ Buruzon Chiemi)?, a comedian who often plays characters from that era, particularly careerwomen like Gelos. The platform boots that Gelos wears are a style that was popular in the 1990s. The two handsome male attendants that appear during Gelos's (Mou-)Oshimaida summoning dance are references to two younger members of Blouson's group.
- She has a habit of using English words or phrases when talking, and is very prideful about it.
