Synopsis

At school one day, Kitsunezaki and Tanukihara, who are members of the school drama club, act out a scene to get Yuki to join the club, but she refuses, causing the two to fall over. Iroha tells Yuki how the drama club recently won a competition, hence why they were invited to participate in the festival. Tanukihara tries convincing Yuki one more time to join, but she says no again. They also say they've settled on doing Romeo & Juliet because Kitsunezaki is dealing with writer's block.

Then, Karasuma arrives and shows Satoru an old diary she found at the storage house in the Mirror Stone's shrine. It was written 150 years ago and appears to be about a wolf. Satoru attempts to translate the readable entries and finds one about a man who encounted a wolf with an injured leg. He bandaged the leg and went to retrieve some water, but the wolf was gone by the time he returned. Then around three months later, the man got lost in the dark after a fishing trip when the wolf from before appeared before him again and led him back to a familiar road. Iroha wonders if the wolf knew that the man had helped it.

As Satoru continues, they learn the wolf was the leader of an area pack. The man also named the wolf, but the name itself has faded. Finally, he reads how the man and the wolf spent the day on Mount Toboe's summit and how he felt the happiest when they were together. Komugi and Iroha are excited someone who used to live in Animal Town befriended a wolf, but Satoru can't read the rest because of its old wording, so Karasuma allows him to borrow it. They also learn that the author's name is Subaru.

Listening to Subaru's story intensely inspires Kitsunezaki and she decides to create a story of a wolf befriending a human. Her excitement causes Tanukihara to panic over the lack of time they have. Iroha, still thinking about the story, recalls what Zakuro said about humans killing the wolves and wonders what caused the betrayal. Meanwhile, Zakuro and Torame lament over their lost territory and can't wait to get it back. Zakuro imagines taking lots of walks with Gaou, but she and Torame argue again when he plans on joining them too.

The next morning, Kitsunezaki reveals she completed the script for Wolfen, The Wolf King overnight, much to everyone's surprise. The plot involves the friendship between the wolf, Wolfen, and a villager named Pleiades, but Tanukihara reminds her they have to start rehearsing now. Iroha and the others volunteer to help, with Mayu especially wanting to help with the costumes. Kitsunezaki uses Mayu's volunteering to convince Yuki again to star in the play and Mayu promises she would work hard on hers. After being backed into a corner, Yuki finally agrees to be in the play.

Kitsunezaki tells Yuki she'll be playing a goddess who helps Wolfen transform when Komugi interrupts by saying she'll be playing a dog. Kitsunezaki tries telling there isn't a dog in the play, but Komugi's natural acting inspires her to add one. With that, the class works hard to put the play together. On the day of the festival, the two thank Mayu for helping make the costumes when Yuki comes out in her goddess costume, which causes Mayu to squeal in delight and take lots of pictures of her. Once Komugi arrives in her dog outfit, it's time to start the play. However, Zakuro watches them from afar.

The play begins, with Kitsunezaki playing Wolfen, Tanukihara as Pleiades, and Komugi as Wheat. In the play, Pleiades tends to the injured Wolfen and later sends him to defend the village against an evil lord. As the scene plays out, Zakuro watches Wolfen and starts falling for it. Then, Yuki's goddess character turns Wolfen into a human to help Pleiades and Kitsunezaki removes the wolf parts of her costume. Zakuro is enraged to learn the wolf isn't real and goes search for an interesting animal to turn into a Gaogaon, and she decides to target a boy's chameleon.

Komugi and Yuki sense the Gaogaon, but the play is still going on, which causes panic. Yuki has one more scene, and Niko volunteers to stand in Yuki's place while they battle the Gaogaon. They all arrive to the Gaogaon lashing its tongue to destroy its surroundings, and the Cures transform, but it vanishes during that time. While the Cures look for the Gaogaon, it attacks them with its tongue again, and Satoru concludes that it could be a chameleon, which changes its color to blend with its surroundings.

As the Gaogaon continues its assault, Niko appears in the play in her human form where her character tells the other two to utilize their friendship to save the world, but they have no idea who she is. The Cure aren't sure how to find an invisible Gaogaon, but Nyammy figures out that it's only pretending to disappear and its body's still there. She calls upon the Kirarin Fox to transform Wonderful into a giant makeup brush and runs on the Gaogaon's tongue when it attacks again.

As the play continues, Nyammy uses the Wonderful makeup brush to dust the Gaogaon in powder, making it visible. Friendy and Lillian trap it with their respective barriers. Mey Mey and Niko arrive in time for the Cures to purify the Gaogaon with Eternal Kizuna Shower. Zakuro wonders if this is because she was seeing another wolf instead of Gaou and retreats.

The group returns to the play just in time for its ending. When Wolfen says that wolves and humans can't live with each other, Komugi remembers Gaou's hatred towards humans and blurts out that it's not true. Everyone on stage is shocked by Komugi's ad-libbed comment and she's left with no choice but to go on stage and improvise. When Yuki joins Komugi, she becomes more comfortable and says if dogs and humans can be friends, so can wolves and humans, and the others are relieved the scene went well.

After the play ends, Kitsunezaki and Tanukihara thank the group for their help. Komugi explains Wolfen looked sad, hence why she had something to say. They also praise Yuki for her performance Kitsunenazi admits she wrote the goddess role in hopes she would play her, but the two are still amazed about the girl who substituted for her. While the others try to come up with an excuse, Yuki flat out refuses to be in their next play.
