Trivia
- Fought in nearly all major battles of the Pacific War, except Midway.
- Heavily damaged by the USS Bergall on December 13 1944, towed to Singapore where she remained until the wars end, before being turned over to the Royal Navy.
- Scuttled in the Straits of Malacca, 8 June 1946.
- Named after Mt. Myoukou in Niigata prefecture.
- Guided missile destroyer JDS Myoukou (DDG-175) exists in JMSDF today, which is basically her present modern incarnation. She is equipped with AEGIS Combat System.
- Myoukou was revolutionary in Japanese heavy cruiser design. She was considered so good that the Takao, Mogami, Tone and Ibuki classes were all derived from her.
- Received her Kai Ni on 04/07/2014.
