During the Dunan Unification War, when Nanami had a conflict with him and told him he wasn't a valuable asset, he joined the New State Army to prove that his "perfect skills" are needed. He helped Riou on his fight against Highland Army. After the war, he stayed in the New State Army as magic instructor and still as infuriating as ever.
Zamza is a very well rounded character, with no particular weakness. However, this also means that he does not excel at many skills either. His strongest point is his high amount of hit points, which is needed because of his Equipment Class. Since his personal rune, the Fire Dragon Rune, has infinite attacks, it is adviced to embed a Fire Sealing Rune on Zamza to utilize its power fully, as it damages Zamza as well. It is advised to embed the Fire Lizard Rune on his weapon, to get max damage. Another Rune Zamza has high affinity with is the Fire Rune or Rage Rune, but his mediocre magic stat make him an unfitting choice for a pure magician (This can be remedied through the usage of Stones of Magic obtained through the Rope Climbing Minigame and the Game Over trick).

Zamza has differents levels depending on where you recruit him.
Zamza is 1 of the 3 characters who have a battle animation based on Street Fighter's Ken (The others are Oulan and Shin). His Fire Dragon attack is a Shoryuken-like move, more precisely the Shinryuken, and both moves have a similar name.
