Kinua (キヌア; Kinua) is a character mentioned in Suikoden II. He was previously listed on fansites as Kianu, based on mistakes in Japanese sources.
Profile
The former leader of the Karaya Clan, Kinua lead the nomadic tribe through several skirmishes with Greenhill, a principality of the then-City-States of Jowston. At the time neighbouring Greenhill, the Karaya Clan and Greenhill's relations were tense at best, with skirmishes erupting between the two.
Conditions between Kinua and Alec Wisemail, the mayor of Greenhill, worsened so badly that Alec Wisemail and Gorudo, the leader of the Matilda Knights, came up with a scheme in order to remove Kinua from power and gain some Karaya-owned lands through the process; in addition, they felt that Kinua's daughter, Lucia, would be a weaker leader than her father, due to her youth and inexperience. Inviting Kinua to an alleged peace conference, Alec Wisemail and Gorudo fatally poisoned the Karaya leader.
This enabled them to seize Karaya lands for Greenhill and Matilda; however, their plan would not entirely work, as Lucia proved to be a strong warrior as well as an intelligent and capable leader, excelling as leader of the Karaya Clan as she followed in her father's footsteps.
Trivia
- The two main Japanese reference sources, the Genso Suikoden Encyclopaedia and Genso Suikoden Kiwami Daijiten, list this character's name as キアヌ (Kianu). However, in the Japanese version of the game (original and remaster), his name is listed as キヌア (Kinua).
