Burn

Burn is an status aliment that appears in several Mario role-playing games.

Description

Burn is a term used to refer to the victim inflicting damage from fire-based attacks. Depending on the game, the player can cure the ailment in different methods.

In Paper Mario series

Paper Mario

Burn is first seen in Paper Mario where it is usually caused by fire-based enemies such as Embers. The Burn status is similar to Poisoned except it lasts fewer turns. This ailment can be cured with either Refresh or a Tasty Tonic.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario can inflict burn if a fire-based enemy comes in contact. A Tasty Tonic can cure the effect.

Super Paper Mario

In Super Paper Mario, like its game predecessors, Mario can inflict burn if a fire-based enemy comes in contact. The player must shake the Wii Remote to get rid of the status.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

In Paper Mario: Sticker Star, if Mario is burned by an enemy, he loses the turn.

In Mario & Luigi series

In the Mario & Luigi series, the Burn condition causes Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, or Bowser to lose their turn. This condition can be healed with a Refreshing Herb.

In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, there is a harmful version of Burn called Char. Victims of Char lose 30 HP as opposed to losing 10 HP inflicted from Burn. The status effect also appears in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

The effect returns in Mario & Luigi: Brothership, though the victim is now able to choose an action while on fire.
