Koopley

Paper Mario
"Well, I came here a while back to deal with Hooktail, and all was well and good... But just before my finishing blow, he played a trick on me and gobbled me down whole!"
—Koopley

Koopley is a character in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and the remake. He is Koops' father.

Appearance

Koopley is a middle-aged Koopa who wears a blue shell and blue boots. He also has large, brown eyebrows and a brown beard. Notably, he is the only Koopa seen in the game where his eyes are always closed.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Ten years prior to the game's events, Koopley went to challenge Hooktail. Koopley managed to defeat Hooktail, but as he was about to finish her off, Hooktail tricked him into being merciful and devoured him. Fortunately, Koopley survived by curling into his shell. During his time in Hooktail's stomach he found the Crystal Star she was guarding and took it as a souvenir. When Mario and his friends defeated Hooktail, she regurgitated Koopley, who became reunited with his son and gave the Crystal Star to Mario.

After the events of Chapter 1, Koopley lives at his son Koops' house for the remainder of the game. During the last events of the game, Koopley joins in to cheer for Mario and Koops to defeat the Shadow Queen. After the Shadow Queen has been defeated, Koopley reunites with Koops being proud of his son for accomplishing his goals and lives peacefully in Petalburg.
