Introduction |
“ This is a battle with the survival of the demons on the line, a contingency plan for defeat, and a fight for the sake of demons a thousand years later.
—Schlacht to Frieren, in Chapter 89
Schlacht 「シュラハト Shurahato?」, also known as Schlacht the Omniscient 「
Personality
Schlacht is shown to be calm and composed. As a future Seer who had seen countless possibilities, this might have contributed to his composure. He was not daunted by the idea of dying, unlike the majority of his race, and Macht even remarked that he had the "face of someone going to their death" when the former talked about the battle with Hero of the South. Schlacht has shown concerns about the future of demons as a species, something quite unnatural and uncharacteristic for demons, who are individualistic and asocial. He was willing to participate in a battle which may lead to his death and took measures to ensure the survival of the demons even after a thousand years.
Although he holds a high position, Schlacht appears to be amicable and placating towards his allies. Even though he was well aware that his subordinates follow him only out of fear, Schlacht still opted to approach Macht with a proposal first instead of an order, and only threatened him when his initial invitation was turned down. However, he is ready to use of force to make them obey his orders and make an example of those who defy him. Even then, as seen with Macht, he still appeared to placate his ally's sensibility, acknowledging the other's dislike for conflict and deescalating by saying he did not want to fight.
Appearance
Schlacht has light-colored hair, which is hidden under his hood. He has two long horns curving inwards coming out from the back of his head. He seems to have black sclera and white eyes, unlike most demons. Schlacht wears a mask under his nose which conceals his mouth.
He wears a long, flowing cloak with two metal pauldrons on his shoulders. Underneath the outer cloak he wears a darker coat with a hood, which has holes to accommodate his horns. Schlacht wears a light colored robe with an array symbols which looked like eyes across his chest. He also has a necklace with a oval pendant.
Synopsis
History
Schlacht the Omniscient was famously the most trusted confidant of the Demon King. He was said to possess magic which could see a thousand years into the future. He is responsible for relaying orders of the Demon King and coordinating the activities of his generals. According to Macht, a Sage of Destruction and the strongest among the seven, Schlacht had been forcing him to participate in his plans many times since long ago.

Around ten years prior to the fall of the Demon King, Schlacht gathered all the Sages of Destruction for a confrontation with the Hero of the South, who was renowned as the strongest Hero of mankind. Before the fight, Schlacht approached Macht of Golden Land and sought for his assistance. As expected, Macht would not comply at first, but he eventually agreed by force, as Schlacht had brought with him Macht's worst matchup, the Miraculous Grausam. While Macht is assured that no trouble will befall him, Schlacht cannot say the same for himself, as according to Macht, he looks like someone on death's door. Schlacht replies that his fate is something he won't know unless he tries. Beforehand, Schlacht had already ordered Grausam to delete Macht's memories, foreseeing that in the future his memories were going to be read by Frieren. Therefore, he would remove the memories of the battle to ensure that nobody could witness it.
According to the tales, in this decisive battle, Schlacht and Hero of the South took each other out after three Sages of Destruction were slain. What actually happened at the confrontation is unknown.
Abilities
As the Demon King's confidant, Schlacht was second-in-command of the Demon King's army and his rank was above even the likes of the Seven Sages of Destruction. He expressed confidence in being able to defeat the strongest of the Sages of Destruction, Macht,[1] though his threat may have also been in part because he was able to leverage the power of the Sages of Destruction against each other.
- Precognition: Schlacht is capable of seeing the future, said to be able to see forward up to a thousand years. According to his own words, he can see "countless future visions" and their possibilities, thus deriving his conclusion and actualize the outcome he wished for. If the message he sent to Frieren was not a lie, Schlacht might actually be capable of seeing ahead a thousand years. This notion is supported by several powerful demons, including Solitär and Grausam.[2]
