Analysis (かい) (せき) Kaiseki? is the ninety-fourth chapter of Kanehito Yamada and Abe Tsukasa's Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.

Summary

Right after the events of the previous chapter, Fern shares with the rest information about the mana she had briefly detected. Denken is skeptical of its accuracy due to the effect of the Golden Land, but shows caution and proposes they stay vigilant. They discuss the detailed analysis of Macht's memories which Frieren is carrying out and predicts that it will take two months to complete. Since the keeper's house does not have a bed, they decide to move and stay at the nearest settlement until the analysis is concluded.

At the meantime, Macht appears at the edge of the Great Barrier to meet Solitär, who has come and is deciphering the Great Barrier of the Golden Land. Solitär makes conversation with Macht, even though the latter cannot hear her voice, telling him to be wary of Frieren and that she is one of the few people capable of defeating him. She tells Macht that she has come to witness the conclusion of his experiment to coexist with humans and will assist him by breaking the Great Barrier of the Golden Land, informing him that the process will take roughly two months. She finishes the analysis and breaks down the Great Barrier at the end, right before Frieren is able to finish her analysis of Macht's memories.

Plot Details

As Denken is preparing a meal for everyone outside the keeper's house, Fern tells him about the great amount of mana she sensed for a brief moment, although she doubts the validity of her detection as the proximity of the Golden Land might have caused a misreading. Denken agrees, saying that the characteristics of imperceptible curses often causes mistakes during mana detection. However, he is still vigilant, saying that if it is true, they are facing a cunning enemy who has waited until the opportune moment when Frieren is off-guard to approach the Golden Land and lay low. Frieren agrees with the assessment, claiming that she would not be able to detect them either around the Golden Land. Denken proposes they patrol the area later and asks if Fern knows the specifics, to which the younger mage replies in the negative.

All the while, Fern is spoon-feeding Frieren the meal that has just been cooked. Frieren asks her to blow on it since it is too hot to eat, and her apprentice complies. Overlooking the scene, Stark remarks that Fern is spoiling Frieren too much, to which Frieren asks if he is jealous. Stark denies it, but Fern tells him that he must take turns, which Stark reacts to with confusion. Denken tells them they need to feed Frieren vegetables as well.

Having taken over feeding duty, Stark asks again if Frieren is just being lazy. Frieren says she is working hard analyzing the colossal amount of memories from Macht and that they should pamper her more. Fern agrees and feeds her onions, which Frieren is reluctant to eat. Stark joins in and encourages Fern to feed her more of the onions she hates. He asks how long the analysis will take. Frieren replies it will take two months. When Stark and Fern both voice complaints, Denken interferes, saying that two months is exceptionally fast and that he had prepared to take up to three years to finish analysis. He apologizes for interrupting their journey and taking up their time. Having understood the problem, both Stark and Fern reassure Denken that it is a common occurrence when they travel with Frieren.

However, since the keeper's house is not adequately furnished for long stays, not even having a bed, Stark and Denken decide to relocate to a nearby settlement until the analysis is complete. As they go out, Frieren apologizes to Fern for not eating her onions, as the latter is braiding her hair. Stark remarks that the braids are Fern's angry braids. Denken expresses surprise at the fact.

At the edge of the Great Barrier of the Golden Land, Macht shows up to meet Solitär, who remarks that it has been a long time since they last met. As Macht takes a seat nearby, she muses that he can not hear her voice due to the barrier. Solitär continues to speak regardless, saying that Frieren the Slayer has begun analyzing Macht's memories. Even though Macht thinks little of this prospect, Solitär warns him about Frieren, whom she calls an excellent mage and one of the few people in the world who can kill him. She goes on to declare she has come to witness the ending of the wild dream of coexistence which Macht had told her about a century ago, claiming that a tragic ending to such a story was inevitable.

Solitär stands up and approaches the barrier, declaring her intention to assist Macht. Even though she does not think for a second that Macht will lose against the humans, by her own admittance, she is too cowardly and fearful of mankind and is not smart enough to make light of them. As she touches the barrier, it reacts and blocks her attempt. Solitär then understands why someone as powerful as Macht is not able to destroy the barrier himself. The Great Barrier was created by numerous mages, each of whom applied several theories of human magic across different lands. It means that without extended knowledge of human magic, no demons would ever be able to decipher it, unless they happen to be eccentric enough to research the magic of mankind, such as Solitär herself. She commences analysis of the barrier and declares that it will take her two months to complete. All the while, Macht does not seem to react positively or negatively to the prospect.

Two months pass for Denken and Frieren's Party as they continue their daily routines in the nearest town, taking time to patrol the perimeter of the Golden Land in search of the possible ambusher. However, they do not discover anyone. As Frieren nears the end of her analysis, Solitär has finished hers. She lists all the major components that formed the Great Barrier, like the demon seals of the Kamm race, the Anderer theory of barrier, and the Great Barrier of Isolation tasked with protecting the Unified Empire and called the Great Barrier a work of art which would be a waste to destroy.

Back at the town, Denken and Stark come to check in with Fern about Frieren's progress. Fern informs them that it will be finished in two days. At that time, she feels a large surge of mana, which she identifies as the same mana signature as last time. Everything begins to rumble as the Great Barrier of the Golden Land shatters. Macht sits at a fountain inside the city and glances at the Stone Bracelet of Servitude as the barrier breaks down. Having finished what she came for, Solitär declares the beginning of the battle for the sake of coexistence.
