Introduction |
Voll 「フォル Foru?」 is an elderly dwarven warrior and a long-time friend of Frieren. He resides in a village in the Klar Region.
Personality
Voll rarely speaks and gives off the impression of a senile old man, however, he is an experienced warrior that is still capable of combat and has a strong desire to faithfully protect the village his late wife loved. Due to his age, Voll shows signs of a deteriorating memory, and he has began forgetting his recent memories along with mixing them up with his past ones, even losing the image of his wife's face. Despite this, he retains the same blunt manner of speaking as before, shown when he tells Frieren that he is glad to have gotten to see her before the end of his life despite saying the same thing eighty years ago.
Appearance
Voll appears as a short, old man with a long, white beard and mustache. His face is extremely wrinkled, especially around the eyes. He wears armor with a visored knight's helmet and a red cape. He uses a broadsword as his weapon of choice.
In the distant past, he had a more robust build, with a larger frame and broader shoulders and chest.[1]
Synopsis
History
Long before the Hero's Party began their journey, Voll married a human woman and made a promise to protect the village she loved—a promise he would uphold for centuries.
Around three centuries later, Voll encountered the Hero Party during their quest to defeat the Demon King. When Himmel asked Voll about his motivation for defending the village, Voll responded that it was an old story that no longer mattered. However, Himmel insisted, arguing that no one would risk their life for something unimportant. Reluctantly, Voll told them about his wife but refused to share the details, saying they were his memory alone. He concluded by admitting that his story might sound ridiculous—keeping a promise to someone long deceased—but Himmel reassured him that his wife would have appreciated his dedication over the centuries.
Voll then expressed his hope that Himmel and his companions would succeed, bringing about an era of peace that his wife had longed for after the Demon King's defeat. He offered to carry the memory of Himmel the Hero into the future, but Himmel responded that it wasn't necessary, as he had both Eisen and Frieren who could do so. When Eisen pointed out that he wouldn't live as long as Frieren, Himmel entrusted the task to Frieren, who didn't mind accepting it. Voll then remarked that Himmel was blessed with great companions.[2]
Travels to Äußerst

About eighty years after meeting Himmel, Heiter, Eisen and Frieren, Voll is once again visited by Frieren and her new party, consisting of Fern, Stark and Sein. Upon reuniting, Voll initially does not recognize Frieren, prompting some playful banter between them and Stark. Voll quickly demonstrates his enduring skill by causing Stark to trip with his sheathed blade, reminding the young warrior of the dangers of imprudence on the battlefield. He then welcomes Frieren and her party to the village.
Over the next week, Voll and Frieren engage in numerous conversations while the former trains Stark. Voll also joins Frieren’s party for their meals and gatherings.
During one of their private conversations, Voll asks Frieren if she still remembers the face and voice of the hero Himmel. While Frieren confidently declares that she does, Voll admits that he could no longer recall his wife's face, voice, or gaze, though he continues to protect the village because it remains important to him. Frieren dismisses this as another instance of Voll faking senility and joking about it.
When Voll asks about where Frieren and her party are headed, Frieren answers that they are going to Aureole, Ende, where the Demon King's Castle is located. Voll assumes that they are finally off to defeat the Demon King. Frieren begins to correct him, noting that the Demon King was already dead, but decides against it. Instead, she promises to carry his memories into the future as well, which Voll appreciates. He then expresses his contentment at having seen her again in the final moments of his life, to which Frieren replies that he had said the same thing eighty years ago.
The next day, Frieren bids Voll farewell. Before she departs, however, Voll tells her that he had a dream about his wife, which he thinks may have been due to their conversation the previous night. He then watches as Frieren and her party continue on their journey.
Abilities
Described as a guardian deity by the villagers he protects, Voll possesses remarkable fighting skills, even in his old age. He is described as a seasoned warrior, having spent centuries defending his home from various monsters and demons. According to Frieren, he often employs underhanded tactics and fights dirty.
