“ If you're gonna drink, you might as well enjoy it, eh?
—Fass, in Chapter 69
Introduction |
Fass 「ファス Fasu?」 is a dwarf that lives in the Bier Region. He dedicated his life towards searching for the spirit named "Boshaft," having spent over two centuries looking for it.
Personality
Fass is very passionate about alcohol. He has eagerly dedicated two centuries of his life in search of an alcoholic drink and is willing to spend copious amounts of money and learn new skills in an effort to find the finest spirit. Fass is also good natured and positive. He gets along well with the townspeople and does not hesitate to share Boshaft once he finally finds it. Despite Frieren's fears that Fass would grow dispirited from learning his life's ambition had been for a spirit that was not actually good, Fass is cheerful upon finally trying Boshaft for himself and laughs about how awful it is. He immediately gathers all the townspeople to try the drink with him.
Appearance
Fass is, as all dwarves are, very small. He has darker hair that he wears a worn out top hat on top of and a bushy, disheveled beard. His attire consists of a white shirt tied at the waist with a thick black belt. The belt also holds his dark colored pants. He wears a baggy, oversized jacket on top of the rest of his attire.
Synopsis
History
Fass was born over two centuries ago in a town.[1]
Eighty years ago, on their adventure to defeat the Demon King, the Hero Party met Fass. He asked them to help him with his goal to find the spirit "Boshaft," and although Heiter really wanted to assist, the Hero Party were forced to decline and move on with their quest.
Continued Northern Travels Arc
Twenty-nine years after the death of Himmel the Hero, Frieren's Party visit the Bier Region and encounter Fass, who has progressed significantly in his quest for the spirit Boshaft. Fass tells them about the legend of Boshaft being buried in ruins in the area, which he came to strongly believe in when he found the stone monument carved by Milliarde.

Fass explains to them that he learned how to mine in service of finding Boshaft, and leads them down the mine to the stone door at the end of the ruins. While he leads them, he explains that while dwarves are often associated with mines, he grew up in a town and thus he had to teach himself mining skills in order to dig the mine to reach Boshaft. He then asks Frieren to decipher the barrier barring access to the room behind the door, as Boshaft lies behind the door. When Frieren refuses, citing Fern and Stark's impatience, he offers to pay Frieren twenty Reich gold coins. When Frieren still declines, he then pleads with her, as it has been his dream to drink Boshaft and he has been searching for over two centuries.
Once Frieren finally agrees, he spends the next three months assisting them where he can and spending time with Frieren, Fern, and Stark when they are not deciphering the barrier. After Frieren finally dispels the barrier, he remarks on how well Boshaft has been preserved, before taking a big swig of it. He appears at a loss for words, and Frieren interjects and calls the drink awful. When he sees Frieren, Fern, and Stark all laughing over how bad the drink tastes, he agrees with the taste, before bursting into laughter at the amount of bottles in the room, and telling the party to bring the whole town to try it. The townspeople all gather and try Boshaft, and as Fass sees the party off, he tells them that while the outcome was disappointing, he has never had as fun a night and he is glad they were there to try Boshaft with him.
