Paula's mother, Romina, was exiled from the Great Tree on Na-Nal Island and moved to Razril, where Paula grew up and eventually joined the academy to become a Knight of Gaien.
Paula then, became a friend of Lazlo, and she is one of the characters that can be choosen to help Lazlo prove his innocence.

Suikoden IV
Paula was originally a member of the Gaien Knights, and graduated together with Lazlo, Tal, Jewel, Keneth and Snowe. When Lazlo was banished from Razril and the Gaien territory, she, Chiepoo and Keneth decided to join him in his endeavours. When she and her friends were picked up by a Kooluk ship, Troy and Colton originally treated them as guests. However, upon learning that Razril was being invaded, she gasped, attracting the attention of both Troy and Colton. She later explained that they were ex-knights of Gaien. They fought both Troy and Colton, but Troy defeated them single-handedly and decided to send them adrift once more.
After a confrontation with a Water Dragon, they were shipwrecked and ended up on the Deserted Island. Together, the four friends found a way out of the island. When they went searching for Chiepoo on the last day, they met Lilin, a supposed habitant of the Deserted Island, who told them of his whereabouts.
They were soon picked up by a patrol ship headed for the Kingdom of Obel. Paula joined Lazlo in his mission to gather people of different talents. She even accompanied him to the Ruins at the left of the Obel palace, where the Rune of Punishment was once stored. Upon meeting Rakgi and Rikie, she and her friends learned of the somber destiny of Lazlo, and stayed at his side all the time.
At the Nest of Pirates, Paula met her ex-commander, Katarina, who happened to be washed ashore and was recuperating in Kika's room. Katarina was horrified to see Lazlo, Paula and Keneth in front of her, and she told them that Razril was invaded by the Kooluk. Shocked by the news, they devised a way to invade Razril once more. They also met Snowe, who was with the Kooluk. Snowe thought that Lazlo, Paula and Keneth had turned to piracy, and decided to attack them, but was soon defeated. She confronted Snowe again in front of Razril, and once more when Snowe himself had turned to piracy.
On her return to Razril, Paula reunited with her friends Tal and Jewel, and Lazlo decided to take them aboard.
After the war, the Elven Elder welcomed her back to the Village of the Elves.
Suikoden Tactics
At the Fall of Kooluk, Paula along with Selma and Jewel was sent by Lino En Kuldes, to help Kyril and his group to fight against the Kooluk at the Small Border Village. Paula stayed at the group and was reunited with his old friends. She planned to visit Razril after the battle end.
Before starting on your first mission, you can choose two of the four Razril Knights. If you choose Paula, she will join. If not, Paula will join automatically when liberating Razril.
Paula is a good fighter focusing on speed and magic over raw power. Paula has natural rune affinity with Wind Runes so getting her a Cyclone Rune may be suggested. She is geared towards mage so her other rune should either be another elemental rune or a support rune like the Alert Rune or Wizard Rune. She is a good choice for the Venus Armor Set, Wing Armor Set, or Magic Armor Set.
Keen: You have done well by coming here. In this room, you may confess what is in your heart and accept proper judgement.
Paula: That sounds difficult...
Keen: Would you secretly inform me about anyone on board this ship who you think is causing problems?
Paula: Th-Then, confidentially speaking... If I had to single someone out, it would be Mr. Chiepoo, I suppose... It seems when he is aboard the ship, all he ever does is either sleep or eat. Is that acceptable?
Keen: Then, would you tell me what you think of Lazlo?
Paula: He is one of us.
Keen: Finally, quietly confess the things you wish to atone for, or all the things that you are thankful for.
Paula: Let me think... I suppose I must have become even stronger. At this rate, I will end up being a liability to Lazlo... That is my worry.
For as long as I have known, there has been much tension between humans and elves, I have lived among humans for years, but I have yet to find the answer to how we might settle our differences.
