Kiesel 「キーゼル Kīzeru?」 is a dwarven blacksmith in a newly settled village around the Kino Mountain Pass. He crafted the replica of the Sword of the Hero and aids Frieren in finding information about the Goddess's Monument.
Personality
Kiesel first comes off as close-minded and is a person who insists on manners and politeness. The dwarf is down to earth and likes to confirm things by himself instead of believing in rumors, and he is willing to share the information he has about the Goddess of Creation with the Hero Party. Kiesel also takes pride in his blacksmithing works, as he wishes to exchange Himmel's sword—which was originally crafted by the dwarf—with one of his other, better-suited swords out of his ambition to recover the replica.[2]
Appearance
Kiesel is a dwarf who has lived for at least a century,[1] and he has a short, sturdy, and slightly burly frame. He sports a spiky and unkempt haircut. His beard begins right under his nose and fully covers his mouth, and it extends from his neck down to his upper chest.
Kiesel wears a jacket with four pockets, and the sleeves of his jacket are rolled up to reveal his muscular forearms. He wears a white undershirt underneath his jacket. His dark-colored pants are strapped with a belt with a buckle around the waist. To protect his hands, he wears gloves. Additionally, he sports a light-colored bandana that is tied around his forehead.
Synopsis
History

When Kiesel began his career as a blacksmith, he was commissioned by a merchant of the Royal Capital to craft a replica of the Sword of the Hero.[3] His work later came into the possession of Himmel when he saved a peddler from a monster as a token of gratitude.[4][note 1]
Goddess's Monument Arc
After beimg sent back in time to the Hero Party's journey upon touching a Monument of the Goddess, Frieren arrives at the Kino Pass in the Northern Plateau with the Hero Party.[5] In an attempt to return to the present, the party searches for texts about the Goddess of Creation and her monuments,[6] but they are unable to find any relevant information. When the party arrives at a newly settled village, a middle-aged man sends them to the village's blacksmith named Kiesel. He explains that meeting with Kiesel might give them an opportunity to gather information, as the dwarf has lived for at least a century.[1]
The party arrives at Kiesel's house, and they introduce themselves. Kiesel invites the party members into his home.[7] Upon hearing Himmel's name, Kiesel tells them that hopeful rumors spread easily and that he heard of the hero's valor in repelling Aura the Guillotine's troops and defeating Böse the Immortal. He reports that some people think Himmel would be a hero among heroes,[8] which flatters him. Heiter asks the dwarf to not go any further, as Himmel would get carried away. Kiesel replies that the hero seems to differ greatly from the rumors about him.[9]

Frieren redirects the conversation and asks Kiesel if he knows anything about the Monument of the Goddess.[9] Although he does not, he recalls noticing several books relating to the Goddess in the home of the chief at a village he used to live in. Heiter asks for the location, and Kiesel tells him that although he would not mind sharing it, in exchange, he would like to respectfully take a look at Himmel's sword.[10] As he inspects the sword, Kiesel gets nostalgic and remembers the beginning of his blacksmithing trade and how he was commissioned to forge the replica for a merchant of the Royal Capital.[3] The dwarf asks how Himmel acquired the blade, and he explains that when he was a young boy living in a remote village in the Central Lands, he received the sword as a token of gratitude from a peddler for killing a monster. Kiesel thinks that the sword has returned to him and that its fate should have been to be stored away in some collector's closet. As a way to thank Himmel for returning the blade, the blacksmith offers him a replacement more worthy and better suited for a hero.[11] Himmel declines, as he has already made up his mind to wield it until the Demon King is vanquished and the world is at peace.[12]
Kiesel accepts the hero's wish, but he requests to at least sharpen the blade.[13] After he completes the job, he returns the sword to Himmel, who notices that the blacksmith has polished it to a mirror-like quality. The Hero Party and Kiesel then bid farewell, with the dwarf directing them to his former village beyond a mountain trail, which has become a den of monsters.[14]
