Gary is a character in Breath of Fire III. His Japanese name, Gilli, is an abbreviated form of Gilliam, the name that he goes by in other installments of the series.
Role in Breath of Fire III
At some point, Gary discovered a cache of high grade chrysm ore in a remote section of the Dauna Mine. He convinces his co-worker and friend, Mogu, to help him excavate the site, despite Mogu's uneasiness regarding a fossilized dragon encased within the ore. The pair dynamite the chrysm, breaking it up into smaller crystals and exposing the dragon to the open air. To their astonishment, this process revives the creature who then proceeds to massacre the miners in an attempt to escape the mines. Mogu is killed, and Gary crippled, in the ensuing violence.
Years later, Ryu re-encounters Gary in the bar at Dauna Mine. He jokes with the party about how surviving a dragon attack turned out to be just like surviving any other mining accident. He then ironically remarks that, even so, he still hopes he never sees another dragon -- oblivious to the fact that Ryu is actually the whelp that attacked him. The encounter causes Ryu to have a flashback of the events at the mine.
