Hondara is a non-playable character that appears in Breath of Fire III. He is a priest located in Urkan Tapa, and believes that enemies can be destroyed in a non-violent way. He is one of the Masters available for player characters to train under.
As a Master
Reflecting his belief in non-violence, the only way to gain Hondara as a master is to learn the non-lethal Backhand skill from Durandal.
Early on, Hondara is a useful master due to two abilities: Kyrie and Benediction. Kyrie is an attack that affects all enemies in battle and causes instant-death against the undead, including bosses such as Dragon Zombie and Arwan. Hondara is obtainable immediately before entering Angel Tower, so if an apprentice can gain 5 levels before completing Angel Tower then the subsequent boss fight in Dauna Mines will be trivial. Benediction is a high-level revive spell. Later on in the game, Hondara's stat bonuses become outclassed by other masters.
Trivia
Ironically, despite being a priest of Urkan Tapa, the hometown of Garr, Garr cannot benefit from him as a Master in any shape or form. Hondara focuses on magical properties, fields that Garr clearly lacks any skill in, making it pointless to apprentice Garr to him.
