Kukuys, also known as The Legendary Mariner, is a character in Breath of Fire III. He lives on a rocky island in the Middle Sea with his only companion, his pet bird, Duan.
Role in Breath of Fire III
When the party needs to cross the Outer Sea, the mayor of Parch tells them to seek out The Legendary Mariner, who is rumored to be the only person to have ever accomplished this feat. The mayor gives them a map of the craggy area around the mariner's home in the Middle Sea. When the party finds him, he reveals that his real name is "Kukuys" and that he originates from the other side of the ocean, meaning that he did not make a round trip journey across the ocean as the people of Parch believe. He tells the party that they need to cross the ocean on the Black Ship, although he warns them that they won't find much on the other side, presumably referring to the vast desert which encompasses most the continent. It's never made clear why Kukuys left his homeland and crossed the ocean.
