The Freighter is a location in Breath of Fire III. It is a large metal structure, possibly an old Black Ship, that is connected to Steel Beach. It also houses a Portal Drive and a large antenna needed to make the Portal Drive work completely.
Story
Ryu and his team first have to gain permission from the Boss to enter this section of Steel Beach. After the mini-game and boss battle, Ryu and co. are allowed to enter this area to search for more parts to repair the ship that's stuck in Junk Town. There are many times that the player has to raise and lower yellow and black beams to cross to new areas. The needed parts tend to be in out-of-the-way areas, and it is important to get them all. There is also a locked door that Rei cannot pick that will come into play later.
When Ryu and his team use a Portal Drive on the other side of the ocean, they are sent back here, although on the other side of the locked door. Once the team realizes where they are, they venture in further. Eventually, they discover the antenna on the roof of the Freighter. By adjusting the antenna until the static noise disappears almost completely, then a wave ring will erupt from the dish, signaling that it is in the correct position. With that, the Portal Drive officially becomes Relay Point A. This will allow the player to teleport to various places on the other continent, as well as take them to Relay Point B (Wyndia).
After this is finished, this allows easy access to almost all corners of the map, as long as there is a Portal Drive somewhere in that area, allowing easier backtracking or revisiting certain areas.
