Toadie is a supporting character in Amphibia. He is the current mayor of Wartwood Swamp, and was formerly assistant to Toadstool.
Appearance
Body
Toadie is a short and small, light green frog with grey parted hair. He has darker spots along the back of his body and a lighter underbelly.
Clothing
He often wears a formal suit including a white shirt under a black jacket, purple dress pants, and a red bow tie. He sometimes carries an orange drum - with stains of some sort - and trumpet with him to use in events, like the annual Pot Luck in "Hop Luck".
In the epilogue in "The Hardest Thing", Toadie wears a monocle over his left eye, a white sash with "Mayor" printed on it in gold lettering, and his signature bow tie is replaced with a light purple ascot.
Personality
Toadie is shown to be quite submissive and obedient towards Mayor Toadstool, and is almost never seen without him. He is also a very good bugball player, as he was on the town team, the Townies, for the annual game against the Farmers in "The Big Bugball Game". He is also shown to be very smart and insightful, such as in "Battle of the Bands" when he gives Sasha advice about how she treated her friends. In "Sasha's Angels", he is shown to have really good leadership skills and a take-charge attitude once he left his comfort zone.
Background
Toadie was originally Mayor Toadstool's assistant and would assist him everyday.
In "Anne or Beast?", when Wally Ribbiton came running and screaming that he saw a horrible monster, Toadie and the Mayor joined the mob to hunt down the monster. Then captured the monster who turn out to be a human girl named Anne Boonchuy who wanted to kill her until a giant praying mantis came, they tried to fight in mantis formation, but were overpowered. Sprig Plantar help free Anne and defeated the mantis, despite Anne saving them, they wanted to drive Anne out of town, but later left when Hop Pop Plantar told them he was gone to keep an eye out on them.
In "Breakout Star", Toadie comforts Mayor Toadstool when he becomes distressed over his poll numbers dropping down. When Anne grows popular in Wartwood for having pimples, Toadie assists Toadstool in using Anne to get his poll numbers back up. However, after Anne decides to stop being popular due to no longer having zits, Toadie watches Toadstool get humiliated and pelted with fruit after he accidentally the citizens "idiots" during his rant against Anne.
In "Girl Time", Toadie is amongst the crowd who witnesses Polly break Wartwood's spitting record.
In "Plantar's Last Stand", Toadie arrives at a local farmer's market where he announces that Mayor Toadstool has increased taxes on all of the food stands. Due to his family being poor, this causes Hop Pop to take extreme measures to save his stand and with Anne's help, he starts selling jars of vegetable juice, called "Plantar's Potion" to pay the tax. However, when Mrs. Croaker who has been a devoted customer to the Plantars, due to their honesty, Hop Pop reveals the drinks he had been selling were not as miraculous as he claimed them to be. As Hop Pop returns the money to everyone who bought the potions and Toadie forces Hop Pop to lose his stand due to not having the money to pay the tax.
In "Toad Tax", Toadie is seen with Mayor Toadstool who greets Bog, Fens, and Mire and gives them a list of the citizens who did not pay their taxes to Toad Tower. Later, Toadie carries a sack full of money and follows Toadstool through the woods and into the center of Wartwood. It is revealed that Toadstool had been hoarding the town's taxes and is hiding them inside a new statue of himself. When Sprig discovers this, Toadie and Toadstool chase after Sprig to keep him silent. Unfortunately, Sprig is able to expose Toadie and Toadstool's crime, leaving Toadstool to be pelted with fruit by the angry citizens again.
In "Civil Wart", Toadie was with Mayor Toadstool when he announced the theater troop had gotten eaten and decided to cancel theater night until Anne decided to play the movie Love Choice for them to watch. However, a huge fight broke out between the crowd over who Constance should choose either Alastair or Hunter, Toadie joined Polly and those who chose Hunter over Alistar.
In "Fiddle Me This", when Amphibia's got talent came to Wartwood, Toadie and Mayor Toadstool were on stage performing their act: juggling on a unicycle, but the judges launch them off the stage. Mayor Toadstool and Toadie later did the same thing to the judges.
In "Children of the Spore", Toadie was among those mind controlled by Mind-controlling mushroom from Apothecary Gary. Toadie joins the other mind-controlled civilians in attacking the Plantar Farm and helps a mind-controlled Anne, Sprig, and Polly restrain Hop Pop so Apothecary Gary could rub his spores onto Hop Pop. However, Hop Pop opened Bessie's pen and allowed the snail to eat all of the mind-controlling mushrooms, freeing everyone from Apothecary Gary's influence. Shortly afterward, Bessie ate Apothecary Gary, Toadie and everyone else is freed from his control and leaves with Mr. Flour, not remembering his state of being mind-controlled.
In "Anne of the Year", Toadie witnesses Anne winning the Frog of the Year award and explains to her that the winner has the honor of hosting a party to celebrate his or her good qualities. Toadie later occupies Toadstool who strongly opposes Anne winning the Frog of the Year award where the two briefly watch people help Anne set up her party. After Anne saves everyone from a fire, Toadie feels sorry for her when the girl miserably asks why she won the Frog of the Year award. Right after Hop Pop explains Anne was nominated Frog of the Year because of her selflessness and maturity, Toadie gives an encore to support Hop Pop's reason, leading Toadstool to apologize to Anne for treating her coldly. Once Anne and Toadstool make amends, Toadie continues attending Anne's party where he later informs her that someone is waiting for her outside of Wartwood, claiming to be a friend. The stranger turns out to be Anne's friend, Sasha Waybright who arrives in Wartwood with Captain Grime and his Toad Army.
In "Sprivy", Toadie was with Mayor Toadstool who was counting his money and ask him if it was still useful giving that Andrias has now taken control of Amphibia and turn it into a wasteland.
In "Sasha's Angels", Toadie is assigned to help a squad of Resistance members reclaim weapons stolen by the Marauders, but has trouble getting out of his comfort zone and doing more than keeping a lookout for his squad mates. After he and his squad get captured because of his hesitance and one of the marauders breaks his beloved stuff, he finally changes and actively fights the marauders and takes charge and contributes to a more effective escape plan, with the Resistance lauding his growth.
In "The Hardest Thing", after the nine-month time skip after the war, Toadie has won the latest election for Mayor of Wartwood, with a little help from Toadstool who has since gracefully taken Toadie's old job as Toadie welcomed Grime and Olivia and Yunan as Delegates.
Behind the scenes
Name and basis
Toadie's name is a pun on the word "toad", a group of amphibians. Toady also means a person who flatters or defers to others for self-serving reasons. This may indicate that Toadie is not out to help the mayor, but rather himself.
Voice
Toadie is voiced by Jack McBrayer. McBrayer also provided the voice of Fix-It-Felix Jr. in Wreck-It Ralph and its 2018 sequel. He has also voiced the character Irving Du Bois from the other animated Disney Channel/Disney XD Series Phineas and Ferb as well as the titular character in Wander Over Yonder, also a Disney Television Animation production.
Debut
Toadie first made a cameo in "Anne or Beast?" and made his official debut in "Breakout Star".
