This article is about the third season character. For Polly's fictional human counterpart, see Molly. |
Molly Jo is a minor character in Amphibia. She is an 11-year-old human girl to whom Sprig saves as his alter-ego, "Frog-Man".
Appearance
Body
Molly is a human preteen girl who has a fair complexion and shoulder-length blonde hair that she dyes pink on the left side and light green on the bottom.
Clothing
She wears a white polo t-shirt with a brown sweater vest and a plaid green skirt, a spiked bracelet on her right wrist, black leggings, and dark blue-grey boots with silver spikes on the back, black straps on the front, as well as black stud-like buttons. She also wears a black shoulder bag bearing the image of a pink cat with a scar over one eye on it.
Personality
Molly Jo is an overall kind person, who's very grateful to "Frog-Man" when he saves her. However, she's not afraid to be upfront and honest when she has to be, exemplified when she scolds her grandpa Robert and "Frog-Man" for their destruction.
Background
Early life
Since a young age, Molly Jo lived in Los Angeles, California with her grandfather Robert Otto, who acted as a community safety officer in their local area.[1]
Meeting Frog-Man
One day in 2019, while Molly is on her school bus, it loses its brakes and starts careening down the streets out of control. Her grandfather Otto tries to stop the bus, but a new hero named "Frog-Man" manages to catch it and rescue everyone in time, including Molly and Otto. She thanks him and is very vocal about how thankful she is, much to her grandpa's jealousy.
Shortly later, she is caught in the middle of the fight between Frog-Man and her grandpa Otto, who was using a powerful robotic arm, and confronts the two over how foolish it was of the both of them to fight and shows them all the damage they caused to the city. After the two clean up the mess they made, she forgives Frog-Man and her grandpa, and she and Frog-Man continue being friends. She asks him if she could see his face, but he refuses because it would "give her nightmares", later using his tongue to go off into the sunset. After Frog-Man leaves, her grandpa Otto is arrested because of the damage he caused before.[1]
Fighting the FBI
Sometime later, Molly alongside Ally, Jess, Humphrey Westwood, Terri, Dr. Jan, and two women from the Thai Community are brought by Anne and her parents to help free the Plantars from the FBI, being also revealed to Molly that Frog-Man is actually a frog masquerading as a human superhero. They all head into the FBI base and then they eventually split up because Terri and Dr. Jan spot a generator that could hopefully help them give enough power for the portal, while the group head inside the base to rescue them. However, they are then caught by Mr. X, but shortly later the power goes out because Terri and Dr. Jan successfully disconnect and steal the generator. This lets them all escape and then Anne goes and rescues the Plantars.
In Jan's van, Sprig reunites with Molly and he is happy to see her. After this, they return to the warehouse, and use the generator to help power up the portal, but it's still not enough to make the portal big. Mr. X and the FBI arrive to capture all of them, but Anne taps into her Calamity Box powers to fuel the portal and make it bigger. A giant praying mantis emerges from the portal to hold off Mr. X and the FBI, which allows Anne and the Plantars to escape through it. However, Jenny and the FBI managed to subdue the Mantis and end up destroying the portal.[2]
Frog-vasion
During King Andrias and the Core's invasion of Earth, Molly and all the others are seen cheering on Anne while she beats Andrias.[3]
Relationships
Robert Otto
Robert Otto is Molly's grandfather. Otto always wanted to impress Molly while doing his job as a community safety officer, so when Frog-Man shows up and makes quite an impression on her, Otto becomes quite jealous, to the point of challenging Frog-Man with a powerful robotic arm. After causing damage in the city, Molly gets very angry with both of them and tells them that they are just destructive attention seekers, so Frog-Man and Otto join forces to fix the damage and make it up to Molly.
Sprig Plantar/Frog-Man
Sprig, in his alter ego of Frog-Man, saves Molly and her grandfather after the school bus she was riding in loses its brakes. Molly is completely grateful to Frog-Man for saving her and her grandfather. After Frog-Man and her grandfather damage the city for having a fight, Molly is angry with both of them for the damage they did to the town just for wanting to seek attention, so both Frog-Man and Otto clean up and fix all the damage to make it up to Molly for what happened.
Molly and Frog-Man make peace and continue to be friends, although Frog-Man refuses to show her his true face since he doesn't want to scare her because of his true nature as a frog.
In "Escape to Amphibia", Molly is one of the people Anne recruits to save Sprig and his family, and through this, Molly discovers Sprig's true identity as a frog. After being rescued, Sprig has a friendly reunion with Molly, now in his true identity.
