Sadie Croaker is a supporting character of Amphibia. She is an old frog who resides in Wartwood Swamp, owning the farm Croaker Dairy and a young pet spider named Archie.
Appearance
Body
Mrs. Croaker is a dull purple frog with a light-dull-purple underside, with a padding of white hair piled on her head. She has a cataract in her left eye. She uses a cane, similar to Hop Pop's.
When she was young, Mrs. Croaker was quite tall with yellow hair and smooth skin, both her eyes were fine as her left eye had no cataract.
Clothing
She wears ragged, patched brown clothing, with a white scarf loosely tied around her neck and black slippers.
During her time in the resistance, she ditches everything except her scarf for a messy breastplate with the Amphibia logo on it and two pauldrons with a gray belt holding it together and underneath a ripped pants leg and replaces her brown slippers for gray, metal slippers with three spikes on them. She returns to her normal attire after the war.
Personality
Croaker is a typical old frog, being friendly, sweet, and gentle with those she meets, although she is also very reserved and tends to keep quiet about her past life. However, out of the public eye, she is quite daring and skilled for her age, being experienced in combat and having a liking for fast driving. Croaker can be a wily septuagenarian if provoked, being quite rough and tough with those she has a feeling of disgust for, as she was initially with Anne, Sprig, and Marcy. She can also be spiteful and vindictive, as seen when Sprig had a road rage with her, since when he needed a ride, she went as slow as she could and started doing things to annoy him, all just to teach him a lesson.
Background
Early life

When she was young, Sadie had a lot of spy-like adventures, which gave her good fighting skills, but also caused that she earned several enemies. Around 1989, she defeated a frog named Jonah in Bogwater Canyon, which caused a great rivalry between the two, as well as a growing feeling of hatred towards her on Jonah's part, a desire that turned into wanting to kill Sadie.[3] In her life at Wartwood, Sadie became a loyal client of the Plantar stand, being a client since it was run by Hop Poppity Pop Plantar.[4]
Over the years, Sadie get a pet spider named Archie, who would become her companion for her next years,[3] and established Croaker Dairy, a cowapillars farm that would serve as both her home and the provider of dairy products at Wartwood.[5] She also continued to be a loyal client at the Plantar stand, now run by Hop Poppity Pop's son, Hop Pop.[4]
A beast in Wartwood

When Wally has an encounter with a "beast", she is among the citizens that listen to him when he describes his encounter with the creature in the woods.[6] The beast is later revealed to be a human named Anne Boonchuy, but she causes everyone at Wartwood to distrust her, including Sadie.[7]
Plantars' quest

When Anne and the Plantar family are going to make pizza for the annual Pot Luck competition, they go to Croaker Dairy to get cheese, and Sadie makes them wrangle cow-pillars on the farm in exchange for some cheese. Once they succeed, Sadie gives them the cheese they need for the pizza.[5]
Sprig's road rage

One day, Sadie is peacefully driving on her ladybug when suddenly Anne and Sprig zoom past her as they drive on Bessie, and Sprig has a road rage with Sadie, mocking her for being so slow, while Sadie scolds them both. Later, when they have trouble getting Bessie to move, Anne sends Sprig to find someone on the road to take him to the Plantar farm to look for Hop Pop, and he meets up with Sadie. She shows no hard feelings for the earlier encounter with Sprig, and agrees to give him a ride to get the help of Hop Pop, however, Sadie's ladybug starts moving slowly and she took her time to sing, much to Sprig's annoyance. Short later, Anne is able to get Bessie moving again and reunites with Sprig, so he no longer needs a ride from Sadie. Sadie says goodbye to the kids, and tells Sprig to avoid having road rage with anyone next time, speeding away in her ladybug while giggling, which makes Sprig realize he has been tricked by her.[8]
Hop Pop's potion

One day, she goes to the Plantar stand for a pumpkin for a stew, but before taking the pumpkin, Hop Pop examines it and finds a gourd maggot, so he gives Sadie another pumpkin. She appreciates Hop Pop's honesty, saying she has always shopped there because of the Plantars' honesty, never disappointing her. Later, when she hears about the "miracle potion" Hop Pop has created, Sadie goes to buy one, fully trusting the potion's apparent effects. Hop Pop, however, unable to see his most loyal client drinking it, decides to reveal the truth about the potion not being miraculous but rather being garbage, as he made it to save his job as he could no longer pay the rent. Sadie is completely disappointed in Hop Pop, and when she goes to get her refund, she tells him that she will have to win him back, but also tells him that his father would be proud of him for telling the truth.[4]
Tax fraud

One day, when Anne is shopping at Grub & Go, Sadie rudely pushes Anne with her cart, ordering her to move out of the way so she can buy some cookies, making alongside the others in the store, mocking Anne along with the rest of the shoppers in the store. Later, Sadie is visited by Anne, Bog, Fens, and Mire at her house as her name was on a list of individuals who did not pay their taxes to Toad Tower, and intimidated by the toads, Sadie orders Archie to attack them, only for the spider to get scared when Mire scares him. Although the soldiers take some of Sadie's belongings, Anne returns Archie's bed to her before the Toads can steal it, despite how hard Sadie was on her earlier. In the night at the Plantar Farm, Sadie witnesses Anne standing up to the toads and calling them out on their bullying over the frogs. Amazed by Anne's bravery and selflessness, Sadie and everyone in Wartwood come to defend her when the toads injure her. After Sprig reveals Mayor Toadstool to have been hoarding the town's taxes, Sadie and everyone get their belongings back and cheer for Anne, officially naming her the protector of Anne while finally respecting her.[7]
Grubhog Day
Sadie attends the 2019 Grubhog Day carnival. She and Archie go on a ride called "Bumper Bugs" where they drive past Anne and Sprig at a high speed, leaving them dumbfounded on how she got to drive her Bumper Bug at a high speed.[9]
Alastair team vs. Hunter team

Mrs. Croaker is among the people disappointed to hear that an acting troupe canceled their performance until Anne suggests they watch the movie Love Choice, and when Anne starts to explain details of the movie, Sadie tells her to start the movie. She is in shock after seeing the movie end on a cliffhanger, but Anne later comforts her and Wally by telling them that a sequel is in production. When a war breaks out among the citizens over who between Alastair and Hunter should keep the protagonist Constance, Sadie goes in favor of Alastair, going to his team, led by Sprig, and there, Sadie is the right hand of Sprig. When Anne goes to talk to Sprig to convince him to end the fight with Polly (who's in support of Hunter), Sadie and Stumpy escort her to meet with Sprig.
Later, Sadie and Sprig witness Anne stealing their team flag where Sadie blows her panpipes to alert the rest of her team. Sadie and the Alastair team follow Anne to the center of Wartwood where they are confronted by the Hunter team, causing a fight to break out between the two teams. The Alastair team eventually gains an upper hand when they ambush the Hunter team, leaving Polly as the last member of the opposing team still standing. However, rather letting Polly admit to defeat, Sadie and the rest of the Alastair team immediately throw fruit at her, causing a guilt-ridden Sprig to jump in the way to protect his sister. Sadie then plays her panpipes to mourn for Sprig's "death" before he recovers, causing the two teams to end the fight on peaceful terms. Later on, Sadie and the rest of the town attends another movie night where Sadie orders Anne to start a movie, which she does.[10]
The hiber day

When the Hiber Day arrives, Mrs. Croaker and the rest of Wartwood are frozen by the low temperature, but Anne takes care of everyone so that nothing happens to them. However, Anne unfreezes Sprig and they begin to play with the frozen citizens, including Croaker and Wally, with whom they play at being "lovers". Mrs. Croaker and the rest of the people are later unfrozen when Hiber Day is over, and they learn of Anne and Sprig's games thanks to Sprig.[11]
Sprig's mission and confronting an old enemy

Once when Sadie goes to do some shopping, Sprig greets her and she ignores him, but instead she greets Anne and Polly, to Sprig's surprise; he later tries to help her with her shopping, but she doesn't let him help her. Sprig realizes for it that Mrs. Croaker is the only person in Wartwood who doesn't like him, so he seeks to win her affection by any means necessary. Although Anne and Polly try to make him realize that not everyone has to like him, Sprig is still determined to do so, and so he sneaks into Sadie's house when she goes out, and Anne and Polly go after him. There, he finds different things and pictures of Mrs. Croaker, but also pictures of a mysterious man. Sprig sees that the man's name is Jonah, and deduces from the photos and a map with his location, that he could be a lost love of Mrs. Croaker, so in an attempt to win her over, he goes looking for Jonah.

When Sprig arrives at Jonah's house, Jonah is surprised to see that he knows where Sadie is, so he asks him to take him to her. When they arrive at Sadie's house, she is surprised to see him. Jonah tells Sadie that he has been waiting to tell her something for thirty years, and Sprig is sure he is going to confess his love, but to the surprise of both him and Anne and Polly, Jonah's intention is to kill Sadie. He tells Sadie that he has been looking for her for 30 years to get revenge for beating him in Bogwater Canyon, telling her that if he kills her the "guild" will surely take him back, and now thanks to Sprig he can. Mrs. Croaker is not intimidated by him, and flashes her fighting skills at the boys to fight Jonah, defeating him and trapping him in an Archie net. The surprised boys wonder what just happened, and Sadie says "nothing happened", telling them not to say anything about what happened. She then asks Sprig why he took Jonah, and he confesses that he was at her house and saw several pictures of him, so thinking he was her love he took him to her so she would like Sprig. Both Croaker and Jonah burst out laughing, and she asks him what makes him think everyone can like him. Sprig asks him why she doesn't like him, and Croaker tells her that his "big eyes and goofy smile rub her the wrong way", but she tells him that because of what he did she could try to like him better.[3]
The Bugball game

When the annual Bugball game arrives in 2019, Mrs. Croaker is one of the players on the Farmers team. Anne is going to help the Farmers beat the Townies, who are better players. At first she wanted to do things her own way, but she ends up working as a team with all the players, and even though the Townies tried to sabotage Anne, the Farmers end up winning for the first time.[12]
Plantars' trip to Newtopia

At some point, Hop Pop considers leaving Polly in Mrs. Croaker's care while the family is travelling to Newtopia because of the dangers, but ends up desisting.[13] While Hop Pop and Polly are picking up the Fwagon for their trip, Mrs. Croaker takes the opportunity to ask them to bring her a new romance novel while they are in the city, and that encourage other citizens to ask them for things from Newtopia.[14]

When they return from the trip, Mrs. Croaker is the first who notices it after hearing Sprig sing, so she call everyone in the town. Everyone including her welcomes them, and she is excited about the romance novel the Plantars have "brought" her, as are the others about their commissioned things, so they decide to have a party that night. Hop Pop and Polly, however, forgot the list the entire trip and didn't bring anything requested, so they decide to summon the demon bird Chicka-lisk, to eat the apparent gifts as an offering. At the party, everyone gathers, however, Chicka-lisk shows up and when he is about to eat the gifts as his offering, the people in Wartwood don't allow it because of the Plantars' effort to bring them, so they start fighting him. Chicka-lisk turns almost everyone to stone, including Mrs. Croaker; soon after she was turned back to normal by Maddie when the monster was defeated and left. The Plantars, seeing everyone's disappointment at not being able to save the gifts, confess that they summoned Chicka-lisk because they forgot to bring them gifts. Everyone is surprised and although they are angry at first, they end up forgetting about it because they missed the family.[14]
Marcy's arrival in Wartwood

When Marcy arrives in Wartwood to spend some time with Anne and the Plantars, Croaker is upset to have another "outsider". Even though she makes some repairs to the town, Croaker along with other citizens like Mr. Flour and Wally still doesn't accept her. After a remodeling to the Town made by Marcy and Mayor Toadstool almost completely floods the town, Marcy apologizes to everyone for the disaster caused, but Mrs. Croaker, on behalf of everyone, strongly scolds Marcy for the disaster; however, she tells her that she is just like when Anne came to town, a disaster, to which the town agrees. She tells Marcy to be patient and that she will surely be able to fit, but warning her that she will keep an eye on her. Marcy then to make amends, fixes all the messes.[15]
Battle of the bands

When a battle of the bands is held in Wartwood after spinning the Wheel of Fun, Mrs. Croaker participates along with Archie, getting favorable results from Albus Duckweed but not from Mayor Toadstool. Later, she and the other attendees witness Grime's harp act, a spectacle that brings everyone to tears, including her. She poses shortly thereafter in Wartwood's farewell photo of Anne, Sasha, and Marcy, as they will be sent home by King Andrias the next day.[16]
War in Amphibia and joining the Wartwood Resistance

When King Andrias shows his true dark nature and begins to create many frobots for an army, Sadie, Toadstool, Toadie, Wally, Ivy, Rosemary, Lavender, and Ginger witness the frobots going to Newtopia Castle.[17]

After the King mortally wounds Marcy and Anne and the Plantars escape to Earth through the Calamity Box, Sasha and Grime escape to Wartwood, where they tell everyone what happened, though telling them that Anne sent them to protect them and skipping over the fact that an army of frobots is going to destroy Wartwood for killing them both. Mrs. Croaker goes the next day to bring them a cake and thank them for protecting the town, which makes Sasha start to feel bad about not telling them the truth.

Later, she decides to do so and summons everyone, telling them that in reality Anne and the Plantars were teleported unwillingly, when suddenly the frobots arrive and start attacking them; however, everyone in the town, including Croaker, start defending both of them from being killed and manage to defeat the frobots. Everyone forgives Sasha and cheers her on.[18]
Soon after, Sasha and Grime create the Wartwood Resistance against King Andrias, and Mrs. Croaker joins it, quickly becoming one of its best members.[19] Croaker also becomes the head of assassination and intelligence gathering.[2]
Anne and the Plantars' return

When Anne and the Plantars make it back to Amphibia, they encounter a wild insect under the control of a mind-control collar, and are saved by Croaker, Wally, and a muscular Leopold Loggle, much to their surprise. They join the resistance and Sasha makes Anne the commander, as a way to avoid making the same mistakes she made with Anne before, even though Anne doesn't know much about leading. As her first task, she must lead them to the factory where the necklaces are made in order to destroy it; Anne is accompanied by Sasha, the Plantar, Croaker, Wally, and Leopold. However, after a series of events in which the group is nearly killed by a controlled snake, Sasha returns as the commander and they manage to escape from the snake and successfully destroy the factory.[19]
Fighting the Marauders

When The Marauders steal a load of weapons from the resistance, Sasha assigns a team of rebels led by Croaker and consisting of Wally, Leopold, Maddie, and Toadie, to fight the group while she and Anne go to retrieve the weapons. Croaker assigns Leopold and Maddie to go with her, while Wally and Toadie are on the offensive, however, Toadie prefers to stand guard as on previous occasions. Croaker encourages Toadie to get out of his comfort zone, telling him that he is capable of much more, although Toadie continues to prefer to stay in his comfort zone. The team arrives at the base, however, they fall into a trap set by the Marauders to catch them, and although Sasha and Anne manage to escape, Croaker's group does not, but Sasha has faith that they will manage to escape. Trapped, they discover that the leader of the Marauders is the candy salesman Barry, who is working for Andrias and plans to sell Croaker and her group to him at a high price.
Croaker devises a plan to escape, and although they narrowly succeed, one of the soldiers. Brian, throws Toadie at Croaker, knocking her out. Although they try to wake her up they don't succeed, and Brian begins to annoy Toadie by destroying his things, even taking her bow; Toadie among the destroyed things sees one of her notes with the phrase that Croaker told her earlier, "You're capable of so much more", and seeing that all is lost for the group, he finally takes a warrior attitude and devises a plan to escape. They manage to escape underground from the prison, and fight against the Marauders, defeating them and recovering the weapons, as well as destroying their base. Everyone congratulates Toadie, and Croaker reaffirms to him that he always knew he had so much more.[20]
Traslating a message

When Anne shows to the resistance a vase with a message in Amphibian alphabet that she found in Earth and that may be of importance in the fight against Andrias, Crocker helps her to translate the message: "Seek the Mother of Olms, she will guide you to your destiny."[21]
Caring kill-a-pillars

When Anne's old pet in Amphibia, Domino 2, is caught by one of Andrias' drones, Anne asks the resistance, including to Croaker, of taking care of Domino 2's offspring. All of them oppose at first, but eventually give in and become attached to the little animals.[22]
Fighting the king
When the Resistance finally goes to fight Andrias and his army, Croaker leads the group of frogs. Arriving at the castle, Croaker starts the battle and a fight breaks out between the two sides. However, when the mastermind, The Core, captures Sasha, Anne, Grime, and the Plantars, it declares the Resistance had lost and proceeds to go to Earth to initiate a planned invasion of the place.[23]Despite this, the Resistance continues fighting the Frobot Army in Amphibia with Croaker fighting alongside Tritonio Espada and Captain Beatrix. Meanwhile, on Earth, Anne and Sasha manage to defeat Andrias and the Core, freeing Marcy from Core's control and declaring victory for the resistance.[24] After finally defeating the Core and preventing the moon from crashing into Amphibia, the girls bid farewell forever to everyone there and return to their home on Earth.[25]
After the war
Nine months later,[26] Mrs. Croaker resumed her normal life, and now buys Maddie potions to control her rheumatism. She also attends the ceremony to unveil the statue of Anne that Wartwood made in her honor.[25]
Relationships
Archie
Archie is Sadie's pet, always taking him with her everywhere she goes. She has a great love for him, taking care of him and protecting him. She also taught Archie fighting skills, as seen when Archie skillfully catches Jonah in one of his nets in "Cracking Mrs. Croaker", or when he throws acid to a dwarf frobot in "Turning Point".
Hop Pop Plantar
In addition to there being mutual respect between the two, Sadie always had a great deal of trust in Hop Pop when shopping at the Plantars' stand, being a loyal customer of the stand, just as she was with her father Hop Poppity Pop, admiring them both for their honesty. When Hop Pop launched a potion that was apparently miraculous but was actually nothing special and made of garbage, she firmly believed it was as Hop Pop claimed, so she bought one. Hop Pop couldn't stand to see Sadie take the potion, so he snatched it from her and told the truth, losing the trust of both Sadie and the other customers. Despite this, their relationship continued to be on good terms. In "Hop-Popular", she supported him for mayor of Wartwood. Later, when Hop Pop lost to Toadstool in the election, she was one of the citizens who helped Hop Pop regain the seat.
As seen in flashbacks from "Return to Wartwood", Mrs. Croaker was confident enough to ask Hop Pop to bring her a new romance novel. Although Hop Pop forgot to bring it to her along with other things he was asked for in the town, she had no problem.
Anne Boonchuy
Like the rest of the Wartwood citizens, it took a while for her to get used to Anne. After the human girl showed her kindness in "Toad Tax", Mrs. Croaker started being friendlier towards her. Anne also likes Croaker's feistiness and craftiness, saying "That woman is everything I want to be".
Sprig Plantar
Although at first she didn't seem to have a problem with Sprig, she actually had it, since there was something about his big eyes and goofy smile that bothered her, causing some heartbreak in her. When Sprig finds out, he tries to get her to like him, even leading Jonah to innocently believe he was Sadie's love, unconsciously causing him to almost have her killed. Sadie told him that not everyone had to like him, but still told him that because of what he did, she could try to like him better. In "Return to Wartwood", when the Plantars were near to Wartwood, she happily recognized Sprig's "irritating voice", noticing thanks to it that they were returning from Newtopia.
Jonah
Sadie and Jonah have been enemies for over thirty years, with him gaining an immense hatred for her and trying to find her during that time to kill her in an attempt to get a "guild" to accept him back, after he was apparently kicked out because Sadie beat him at Bogwater Canyon. When Sprig innocently went to Jonah believing he was Croaker's love and led him to her, he immediately seized the opportunity to kill her, but Sadie ended up defeating him.
Powers and abilities
- Fighting skills: Thanks to her adventures as a young, Sadie acquired a great ability for fighting and combat, being able even to maintain that ability in a very elderly age.
- Amphibian alphabet understanding: Sadie is able to read and understand the ancient Amphibian alphabet, as shown in "Olm Town Road", when she translates from that alphabet the message in Anne's vase. Most likely due to her secret agent days when she was younger.
