Bella, also known as Bella the Bellhop, is a minor character of Amphibia. She is a newt living in Newtopia, who works in the Hemisphere Hotel.

Appearance

Body

Bella is a light orange newt with a lighter underbelly, freckles on her cheek and face, and short brown hair. She has dark splotches on her tail.

Clothing

Bella wears an aqua dress-shirt with yellow lining and a black and yellow stripe on the cuffs, along with black capris with yellow lining. She also wears a circular aqua hat with a black and yellow stripe that she keeps on her head with a black strap.

Personality

Bella seems to be a pessimist, having come to realize and accept the hardships of adult life such as having to pay off her student debt by working at a job where she gets no respect from her boss. However, meeting Sprig and receiving kindness from him helps her regain a little hope for her future, and she shows off a bit of a goofy side when she asks if they can order 1,000 sundaes with the unlimited royal credit card.

Background

Early life

Bella was born and raised in Newtopia. She was accepted into Newtopia University, studying there for four years, but she ended up acquiring a "mountain of student debt" for that. At some point, she started to work at the Hemisphere Hotel, however, she was very unhappy with her job, mainly because of the hard work and the lack of respect from her boss.[2]

Plantars' stay at the hotel

When the Plantar family and Anne begin staying at the hotel, Bella is assigned to carry the rest of their bags to their room, where she meets Sprig. Upon dropping off the bags, Bella asks Sprig for some help with a tip, but Sprig thinks Bella is asking if he needs help and asks her what she would do for fun inside the hotel, and she replies that she would love to go to the top of the Ferris wheel to see the view; Sprig thanks her and leaves without tipping her, much to Bella's disappointment. When Sprig starts having some fun inside the hotel but causes several messes in the process, Bella is responsible for cleaning them up.

While she is on break and about to have her lunch, her boss tells her that she has five minutes left on her break. Disappointed, Bella begins to wonder if that will be the rest of her life, saying that the real world has taught her that miracles don't exist, when suddenly Sprig's Royal Credit Card falls into her hand. After Sprig foolishly tells her that the card has unlimited funds, Bella takes the card and runs away, and Sprig goes after her. During a fight between them, the card ends up on top of one of the Ferris wheel's cabins, and when they reach it, they end up on top of the Ferris wheel, amazed by the view of Newtopia from there.

Bella apologizes to Sprig for trying to steal the card and tells him that she really needed the money, and Sprig tells her it was okay; suddenly, the Ferris wheel moves and Bella falls from the top, but Sprig, thanks to a Bug-Accino, manages to save her. The hotel manager catches them and tells them that they are in trouble for not paying for the Ferris wheel climb, and although he lets Sprig go due to the card, he fires Bella; Sprig, however, telling him that Bella is the best employee since she recommended him to go to the wheel and even took him personally to the wheel, besides claiming to know King Andrias, makes the manager promote Bella. She thanks him and affirms that people like him make her see the future more positively, and they both go for ant sundaes.[2]

War in Amphibia

Sometime later, after the Wartwood Resistance is created against King Andrias (who had shown his true colors), Bella joins it. She participates in the fight between the resistance and Andrias' army, even after the leaders are caught by Andrias and Darcy and teleported to Earth. After they return to Newtopia, Lady Olivia informs to the resistance that King Andrias and Darcy have been defeated and the resistance has won the battle, to which Bella cheers.[3]

Behind the scenes

Voice

Bella is voiced by Kristen Schaal. Schaal was announced as a guest star in the second season on June 23, 2020,[4] with her role as Bella being announced on July 21, 2020.[1] Schaal also voiced Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls, another Disney Television Animation produced series, and Louise Belcher from Bob's Burgers.
