Indulge amid the stench of battle as Grendel the voracious gourmand, greedily swallowing armies whole into his fathomless maw. Corpulent and courageous, he consumes prey to invigorate kindred warriors, or disgorges the eaten out drenched in putrid acidic bile. Stampede through strongholds as a spherical menace, leaving cadavers in the wake crushed by his thunderous quake. Grendel's feeding frenzy began in Update 26: The Old Blood.
Acquisition
Grendel's main blueprint can be purchased from the Market. Grendel's component blueprints are awarded by completing certain missions on Europa using Locators, which can be purchased from the Arbitration Honors vendor found in any Relay for 25 Vitus Essence each.
Purchasing a Locator will unlock the unique mission associated with it, which guarantees the associated Grendel component as a reward. These missions will have level 25-30 enemies, however players will be unable to use their Gear items, weapons with unique traits (e.g. Knell's Death Knell) do not function (however, Syndicate Radial Effects from Syndicate Weapons do still occur), Kuva and Tenet weapons will not have their elemental damage bonus, Incarnon weapons will not transform and bonuses from Incarnon evolutions will not apply, Operators cannot be used, and any Focus abilities will be disabled. Also all Mods will be deactivated, except Warframe Augment Mods, which will still work. The effects of Archon Shards also will not apply. Syndicate Death Squads will also not appear in these missions. Arcanes do not work as well.
- The
Grendel Neuroptics Locator unlocks the Archaeo-freighter, a 20-minute Survival mission.
- The
Grendel Chassis Locator unlocks the Icefields of Riddah, a 10-wave Defense mission.
- The
Grendel Systems Locator unlocks the Mines of Karishh, an Excavation mission where players have to collect 800 Cryotic.
These missions do not have public matchmaking, requiring players to form pre-made squads.
Locators are only consumed after completing the mission, requiring the purchase of another Locator to unlock once again. However, only the squad host requires a Locator, allowing them to invite other players to participate in the mission, and the component reward will be granted to all players upon completion.

Lore & History
Karishh's Final Feast
- Main article: Leverian#GrendelView Grendel List▾▾
The Warframes Grendel and
Gauss would then appear to liberate Riddha from Karishh's control. Gauss would remain near the entrance of the city, presumably intercepting any returning patrols, while Grendel would go on to plow straight into the city, consuming all of Karishh's sycophants and Dax soldiers. With his gut full, Grendel would then
Nourish all the afflicted masses of Riddha with the power he consumed, leading them to join him in storming the Karishh's manse.
Smashing open the gates with his Masseter, Grendel would lead the newly reinvigorated citizens, interrupting yet another of Karishh's feasts. The Executor would then flee to the far-off mountains of Riddha, pursued by Grendel. As the citizens sat feasting, Grendel would have a feast of his own, consuming Karishh in one bite.
Notes
- When Grendel wields his signature
Masseter, he will become immune to crowd-control effects while performing Heavy Attacks.
- Grendel sports the third highest base health of all Warframes, behind
Inaros and
Inaros Prime.
- Sprint Speed mods do not appear to affect the speed of
Pulverize, however, the
Motus Signal does increase double jump height whilst in the ability.
- Despite retaining the UI of the last equipped weapon, Grendel is unable to activate Syndicate Radial Effects while in Pulverize.
- Grendel is able to consume many of the specters in the junctions between planets, largely trivializing each encounter.
Trivia
- Grendel is named for the villainous giant in the epic poem Beowulf. Among Grendel's epithets is "the destroyer and devourer of our human kind," and he is described as eating the flesh from the humans he kills.
- During his development, Grendel was referred to as the "Oni" Warframe. In Japanese folklore, Oni are depicted as hulking, horned ogres with a penchant for terrorizing humans, up to and including devouring them.
- Several of Grendel's idle animations as well as the pose he strikes during
Nourish are modeled after Sumo wrestlers.
- Grendel is the 42nd Warframe to be released (excluding Primed and Umbra variants).
- Grendel is the first Warframe whose component blueprints are obtained from exclusive mission nodes, which requires Vitus Essences and, in turn, Arbitrations.
- Grendel was originally intended to release simultaneously with his best friend
Gauss, but required more time for development. As a nod to their friendship, Gauss appears in Grendel's Warframe Profile to receive his support from
Nourish, as well as a mention in Grendel's Leverian exhibit. Grendel also appears in Gauss's profile video riding a K-Drive while Gauss sprints beside him.
- Grendel's belly maw snaps open with the use of his abilities, namely
Feast and
Regurgitate.
- Grendel's belly visually enlarges and gains jiggle physics when enemies are eaten and stored with Feast.
- Voicelines spoken by enemies inside Grendel's gut have a muffled and gurgled sound overlay.
Release Date: October 18th, 2023

Notes
- Grendel Prime, compared to
Grendel:
- When Grendel Prime wields his signature
Masseter/
Masseter Prime, he will become immune to crowd-control effects while performing Heavy Attacks.
- As with any other Prime Warframe, moving close to the location of an Orokin Void Death Orb will restore a pulse of 250 Energy to nearby allies, even if that Death Orb is inactive, destroyed, or non-present. This effect can only occur once per orb.
Trivia
- In his Prime Access trailer there are red suited Corpus wielding the
Flux Rifle, though no such enemy exists in game.
Media
Passive
Devouring his prey whole, Grendel slowly digests the enemies he swallows via
Feast. Each enemy still alive in Grendel's belly passively grants him 250 Armor, to a maximum of 1,250 bonus armor at the 5 enemy cap.
- Passive bonus value is displayed above Grendel's ability icons.
Gourmand provides an additional 150 armor bonus per enemy at max rank to Grendel's passive, increasing the armor bonus to 400 per enemy and the total armor bonus to 2,000 at enemy cap.
- Armor bonus is added after armor mods such as
Steel Fiber. For example, Grendel with a rank 10 Steel Fiber and one enemy alive in his belly will have Total armor = (350 × (1 + 1.1)) + 250 = 985
- Armor bonus adds or subtracts depending on the number of enemies currently residing in Grendel's stomach.

Info
- Grendel expends
25 energy to open his maw agape for 1.5 seconds, creating a powerful vacuum that disintegrates enemies near the aiming reticle within
25 meters and swallowing them whole to trap them inside Grendel's stomach. For each enemy swallowed by Feast, Grendel's maw stays open for an extra 1 second. Enemies within Grendel's stomach are slowly digested at a rate 2% of their total shields and health per second. A maximum of 5 enemies can be held within Grendel's stomach.
- Grendel can swallow multiple enemies by moving the aiming reticle to mark new targets with Feast, while his maw is still open.
- The five eaten enemies' profile icons and their remaining hitpoints are displayed as circular gauges, aligned in a cross-shape UI indicator above Grendel's ability icons.
- Feast also vacuums Pickups and thrown Hand Grenades near the aiming reticle for Grendel. Swallowed grenades will detonate inside Grendel's stomach and only damage nearby enemies.
- Enemy auras such as Ancient Healer or Guardian Eximus are disabled while within Grendel's stomach.
- Hold down the ability key (default 1 ) to violently vomit all stored enemies out for no energy cost, inflicting
250 / 300 / 400 / 500
Toxin scaling damage with a 100%
Toxin status chance to vomitted enemies and other enemies within 8 meters in a cone in front of Grendel.
- Toxin damage on vomit is affected by enemy level and amount of enemies stored.
- Feast's Toxin damage on vomit benefits from sum of enemies levels stored using the following expression:
- Total Toxin Damage = Toxin Base Damage × ((ΣEnemy Level - 1) / 15 + 1)
- With 5 eaten enemies at level 101, Grendel will deal 500 × ((101 × 5 - 1) / 15 + 1) = 17,300
Toxin damage on vomit. Resulting damage is rounded down to the nearest whole number.
- Grendel cannot Feast on enemies grabbed by certain Warframe abilities, including
Nidus'
Larva,
Vauban's
Bastille in Vortex mode and Tether Coil from
Minelayer,
Khora's
Strangledome,
Hydroid's

Nidus'
Parasitic Link will erase them completely.
- Feasting on enemies affected by
- Bosses cannot be Feasted.
- If Grendel crosses a Nullifier or falls out of bounds, enemies in his stomach are automatically expelled.
- Feasted enemies are considered removed from play, removing them from Exterminate waypoints and allowing Defense waves to advance, even if they are still alive.
- The Circuit's Corrupted Jackal still requires Feasted enemies to be vomited and killed to progress the fight.
- Ability Synergy:
- Grendel's passive grants him 250 armor per enemy alive in his stomach.
- Grendel must have at least 1 enemy alive in his stomach to cast
Nourish and
Regurgitate.
Pulverize drains 0 energy if he has enemies in his stomach. The sphere also enlarges with engorged enemies, increasing the collision and ground slam's damage and radius.
Augment

- Main article: Gourmand
Gourmand is a Warframe Augment Mod for Grendel's
Feast to consume health instead of energy and increases armor for enemies in his gut.
Tips & Tricks
- Volatile Runners swallowed by Grendel’s Feast have a tendency to explode from within, causing Grendel to stagger.
- Increasing the Ability Range of Grendel’s Feast increases the effective Vacuum Range, this is especially useful for survival since feast can be used to Vacuum Life Support pickups from a fair distance without having to leave the current room.

50 / 100 / 150 / 200 health per second over 5 seconds which slowly diminishes to half its value after another 5 seconds.
- Grendel has a base speed of 12 m/s during Pulverize. Sprinting increase this 30 m/s. He can only perform a limited selection of parkour Maneuvers, such as jump, double jump, and wall jump during Pulverize.
- Grendel is unable to utilize weapons and cannot cast any Helminth subsumed abilities during Pulverize.
- Activating the ability to enter the sphere form will cause Grendel to automatically drop carriables, such as datamasses.
- Grendel will accelerate faster when rolling downhill and ricochet off of terrain obstacles.
- Grendel tramples over his enemies with varying levels of power and reach, depending on the techniques he uses and the fuel within.
- Grendel's mobility in Pulverize can be increased by adding to Movement Speed, Sprint Speed, and mods that affect jumping, such as

- Armor is fully removed at 200% Ability Strength.
- Impact damage on collision does not occur if Grendel is stationary.
- Damage and radius changes as enemies enter and exit Grendel's stomach. His sphere model also enlarges and shrinks based on the eaten enemy count.

- Pulverize costs 0 energy to activate. While active, Pulverize drains
3 energy per second on an empty stomach to maintain his sphere form until deactivated manually by pressing the ability key again (default 3 ) or automatically when Grendel runs out of energy, reduced to 0 energy per second if Grendel has at least one enemy in his stomach. Should Grendel run out of energy during Pulverize, he will automatically unfurl and become stunned in a dizziness animation for 2 seconds.

- Base vs Final Stats in Modding - Health / Energy / Shield / Armor Stat Overhaul
If you’ve spent any time invested in the deeper nuances of Modding, you may be familiar with “Warframe Math” - math that upon first glance doesn’t really make sense, but once you learn the inner workings of the game, it all comes together. While we can appreciate the value that complex systems offer to a certain subsect of players, there are other aspects of the game that should have clear and understandable outcomes. Namely: Shield, Health, Energy, and Armor Modding.
Pop quiz: what is 300 + 440%? If you answered 740, you may just be an Excalibur player.
Vitality (+440% Heath), Redirection (+440% Shields), Flow (+150% Energy), and Steel Fiber (+110% Armor) come with large modifier values that don’t seem to match their outcome in-game. This is because these Mods apply their multiplier to the base stats of the Warframe - i.e., the stats you have at Rank 0. In the Excalibur example, a Rank 30 Excalibur’s Health stat of 300 earns an additional 440 Health from max rank Vitality (+440% Heath) since it applies to his base rank Health stat of 100, resulting in 740 total health.
In this update, we have removed this obfuscation by having Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor Mods apply to the stats of Warframes at their current rank. Continuing our Excalibur example, instead of Vitality always applying to Excalibur’s base rank 100 Health, it would apply to his Health stat based on his rank - namely, the stat you can actually see in your Arsenal. If your Excalibur were Rank 30, his Health stat would be 300, which means Vitality’s multiplier would be calculated off of 300.
With previous Health and Mod values, additional adjustments are needed to make this revision work while maintaining game balance. By only changing where the multiplier applies, a Rank 30 Excalibur would receive an extra 1,320 Health from max rank Vitality, resulting in a total health stat of 1,600. This outcome is a significant buff, which is not the intention of this system change.
To remedy this, we approached this problem in two ways:
1 - We reduced the overall multiplier for Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor Mods.
Since these now affect Max Rank Warframe stats, these Mods need to scale differently to maintain the status quo. Additionally, we wanted these new values to be as clear and understandable to all players as possible! Here are a few examples of these value changes:
- Vitality: Reduced from +440% to +100% Health
- Redirection: Reduced from +440% to +100% Shield Capacity
- Steel Fiber: Reduced from +110% to +100% Armor
- Flow: Reduced from +150% to +100% Energy Max
Note: These are not all of the Mods affected by this change. We share the comprehensive list further down in this section of the update notes.
Doing some quick math, this means that a Rank 30 Excalibur (300 Health) with a reworked Vitality Mod (+100% Health, applied to the final Health stat) would receive 300 extra Health, for a total of 600. That, in contrast, is a nerf, which we also don’t want to do.
So, our next step:
2 - We adjusted Warframe Health, Shield, Energy, and Armor values to keep the end result of the revised Mods as close to the original values as possible.
With this change, Excalibur’s Rank 30 Health stat is 370. With +100% Health from a max Vitality Mod, his resulting Health stat would be 740, which matches what it was originally.
While this path to the same result may seem a little complicated, the outcome matches our intention: we want players to be able to look at their Health, Shield, and Armor Mods, and be able to understand how they affect the stats they see in their Arsenal.
In addition to everything above, we also increased the base stat values for Warframes so that these revised Mods offer similar value for lower-ranked Frames. To do so, we reduced the amount of Health/Shield/Energy that Warframes earn per rank in half, and transferred the sum of that value to their base stats.
For Armor, this is the one stat that does not increase with your Warframe’s level (with some exceptions). Armor values across the board have been slightly increased to compensate for the Mod changes.
Not to beat a dead Kaithe, but Mods will now be applying to the Max Rank stat instead of the Base Rank. You may look at these numbers and think “nerf” or “buff” depending, but the outcome is that total Modded values are the same, if not a little higher in some cases.
Warframe Stat Changes:
GRENDEL Health: Base Rank - 1095 (from 350) / Max Rank - 1295 (from 1050) Shields: Base Rank - 95 (from 25) / Max Rank - 95 (from 75) Armor: Base Rank - 370 (from 350) Energy: Base Rank - 175 (from 150) / Max Rank - 225 (from 225)
While there may be significant changes to Warframe Stats and Mod values as a part of this overhaul, the end result is that your Builds should mostly stay the same. The key difference is the added clarity of what your Health / Shield / Energy / Armor Mods do in your Upgrade screens!

Update 32.2 (2022-11-30)
- GRENDEL REWORK
Grendel is in new form with this update, and not just in his usual Pulverized rotundness. The following changes are intended to make his kit far more comprehensible and dynamic. We revisited the nuances of his abilities and their synergies, simplified them, and made them more situationally viable across the board. Overall, Grendel’s rework has given him more ways to feast on, fight, and flatten anyone that stands in his way!

Passive
- Increased Armor gained from each enemy alive in Grendel’s Gut from 50 to 250.
Feast
- Added a new HUD indicator to show the number of enemies and their Health in Grendel’s Gut. The Armor that he gains from enemies thanks to his passive is now also visible here.
- Removed the 1.5/s Energy drain while enemies are in Grendel’s Gut.
- Replaced the Armor Reduction with 2% of their total Shields and Health overtime (does not scale).
- Health and Shields are more universally applicable, making Nourish affect enemies across a wider range of types.
- Unified Radius for all ranks (25m for all).
- Enemy auras are now disabled while inside Grendel’s Gut.
- For example, after clearing an Ancient Healer Eximus’ Overguard, casting Feast on it will nullify its damage reduction buff while inside Grendel’s Gut.
- Grendel can now cast Feast on enemies that are open to a Mercy kill.
- Sentient enemies caught in Grendel’s Gut with Feast are no longer automatically expelled after 8 seconds.
- Grendel can now Feast a maximum of 5 enemies at a time.
- With the above buffs to Feast, the previous 40 enemy max would understandably be far too overpowered. The new cap allows players to make the most of Feast’s more powerful state and keep them actively seeking enemies to chomp on without clearing the whole map in one go.
Gourmand Augment Mod Change:
Was: Instead of Energy, consumes 200 Health on cast and 30 Health drain.
Now: Instead of Energy, consumes 200 Health on cast. Gourmand grants an additional 150 Armor (up to 400) per enemy.
Nourish
- Removed the “cycle to select + hold to cast” feature for Nourish’s buffs. Now, Nourish grants the following buffs to Grendel and allies within range on a single cast (with some exceptions).
- (Previously holding to cast) Nourish’s healing effects no longer scales with enemy Health, but instead now heals Grendel 1000 Health on each cast.
- (Previously Nourished Energy) Grendel and buffed allies are granted 2x Energy from Orbs (scales with Ability Strength Mods).
- (Previously Nourished Armor) Grendel and buffed allies explode radial Viral damage (2 second cooldown, independent for each player) when enemies attack Grendel in a 12m radius (at max rank). 100% Viral Status and staggers enemies.
- (Previously Nourished Strike) Grendel and allies are granted Viral damage to their weapons.
- Added a “Gut Empty” error when attempting to cast Nourish without any enemies in Grendel’s Gut.
- For Helminth versions of this ability, other Warframes will still be able to use Nourish without the consumed enemies requirement.
- Nourish Helminth Ability Changes:
- Prior to this update, the Nourished Energy buff was omitted when injected on other Warframes. Now, the new 2x Energy from Orbs buff applies.
- The healing effects are not transferred over when injected on other Warframes and the Viral damage is limited to one stack.
'Hearty Nourishment Augment Mod Change:
Was: Clear status and gain 2s of Status Immunity for each victim in Grendel’s stomach.
Now: Clear status and gain 5s of Status Immunity for each victim in Grendel’s stomach.
Pulverize
- Moved to the 3rd ability slot.
- We felt Pulverize didn’t suit the “ultimate” status we’ve prescribed for other Warframes. So instead, we buffed Regurgitate to bring it up to the level we expect for a 4th ability slot.
- Grendel no longer needs to have enemies in his Gut to cast Pulverize.
- Worth noting that even if there are enemies in his Gut, there is no longer an energy-per-second drain tied to them as per the changes made to Feast.
- Reduced the drain on an empty Gut from 10 Energy/s to 3 Energy/s.
- Feast, Nourish, and Regurgitate can now be cast while in Pulverize.
- Added a 50% Armor Reduction (at max rank) to enemies struck by Pulverize (scales with Ability Strength Mods).
- Removed the Enemy Level multiplier from the total Impact Damage scaling.
- ''New formula: Total Impact Damage = [Impact Base Damage + (Number of Enemies Stored≤10 × 350)] × (1 + Ability Strength)''
- Grendel will now heal 200 Health/s for 5 seconds after Pulverize is cast, and then decay to half its starting value over the next 5 seconds (scales with Ability Strength Mods).
- Pulverize can now strike tileset breakables (crates, resource deposits, etc.).
- Made several movement improvements:
- Improved general control over Pulverize’s movement.
- Improved movement went traversing slopes to make it smoother.
- Momentum is now maintained on cast in and out.
- Stairs can now be climbed while in Pulverize.
- Sprint can now be used to go faster but at the cost of control over movement.
- Grendel’s Pulverize form now takes on player customized colors and Voidshell Material Structure customizations if you own the Grendel Voidshell Skin.
Catapult Augment Mod Change:
Was: Launch Grendel in your aim direction. Costs 10 Energy.
Now: Launch Grendel in your aim direction. Costs 5 Energy. Crouch to slow down.
Regurgitate
- Moved to the 4th ability slot.
- Added guaranteed Toxin Status Effect.
- Added 75% Armor Reduction on Regurgitated enemies (scalable with Ability Strength Mods).
- Increased Toxin Radius Range from 5m to 6m (at max rank).
- Added VFX on cast to show the affected radius.
- Enemies hit by Regurgitated foes are now slowed by 80%, which decays to 0% over time (6 seconds).
- Changed the total Toxin Damage multiplier from enemy level to total enemy Health %.
- Added a 50 Energy cost on cast.
- Added a “Gut Empty” error when attempting to cast Regurgitate without any enemies in Grendel’s Gut.

- Fixed Grendel losing all momentum in Regurgitate when jumping with no forward movement input.
- Fixed Grendel being able to Feast on Eidolon Lures.
Update 32.0 (2022-09-07)
- Fixed the Granum Void target being enabled in the Grendel Locator missions.
Update 31.6 (2022-06-09)
- Made the following changes to the Grendel Locator missions:
- Lowered the Enemy level in the Grendel Locator Missions from 40-45 to 25-30.
- This change was made thanks to Community feedback on the difficulty of the Eximus units in the Grendel missions after their rework, but it was also decided to lower the enemy levels overall as these missions were deemed too difficult.
- Reduced the length of the Grendel Chassis Locator Defense mission from 15 waves to 10 waves. As reported here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warframe/comments/uigpd9/grendel_missions_impossible_now_with_eximus_rework/i7fk209/
- The changes to Eximus units in the Angels of the Zariman update made this particular mission much longer compared to the rest because you are required to clear all the Eximus at the end of every wave. Even with the changes we’ve made to Overguard in this update, we have reduced the waves to compensate for the added difficulty/time we found Eximus units continued to bring to the mission.
- Syndicate Death Squads will no longer spawn in the Grendel Locator missions.
- Lowered the Enemy level in the Grendel Locator Missions from 40-45 to 25-30.
Update 31.5 (2022-04-27)

Hotfix 31.1.1 (2022-02-09)
- Fixed crashes and excessive performance hitches when Grendel consumed an exorbitant amount of enemies and proceeded to vomit them out (90+ enemies). In the name of performance, we’ve added a limit of 40 enemies that can be eaten by Grendel at any given time, and spread out the vomiting of large numbers of enemies.
- Test Cluster crash report/fix.
- This was noted in the Update 31.1.0 notes but didn’t actually make the build.
Update 31.1 (2022-02-09)
- Augment: Feast -
Gourmand
- Added a new Grendel ability tip:
- "Feast's damage-over-time on vomited enemies, damage on Regurgitated enemies, and Nourish’s self heal on cast all scale based on the level of enemies Grendel devours."

Update 27.3 (2020-03-24)
- Grendel Changes:
- Grendel’s Nourish now mimic’s Titania’s Tribute buff selector.
- If you’re unfamiliar with Titania’s Tribute buff selector, this means that Nourish is a tap to cycle/select buff and hold to cast. This is a reverse of how it functioned prior to this Update.
- When consumed by Grendel, Sentients now have a max duration they can be consumed before popping out that is affected by diminishing returns.
- This change was made to prevent Grendel from prog stopping missions where all Sentients must be exterminated for the mission to succeed.
- Grendel can now consume Grenades - cause why not!
Update 27.2 (2020-03-05)
- Fixed Grendel turning into a blob of polygons when submerging into Submersible Archwing water with Pulverize active. As reported here: https://forums.warframe.com/topic/1168788-grendel-pulverize-stuck-when-hitting-water/

- Grendel Regurgitate damage radius increased from 3/3/3/3 to 3/4/5/5 and increased damage scaling.
- Grendel Pulverize no longer ends when he runs out of consumed targets, instead it starts draining Energy like Ember’s Immolation.
- Grendel also gets extra acceleration for Pulverize if he uses Nourish during it.
- Added sound to when Grendel stumbles due to running out of Energy.
- Fixed Grendel having fast legs after using Pulverize
Update 26.0 (2019-10-31)
