Corks are objects that block openings, usually of a Warp Pipe, usually to prevent the player's character from accessing those locations. The player is required to use some sort of method to remove the cork.
There is only one cork, and it is closing the opening of a vase, imprisoning the Subcons within. After Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool or Toad defeat Wart, they discover the vase and pull the cork out, freeing the Subcons.
A giant cork blocks the waterfall during the first episode of Noki Bay, Uncork the Waterfall. The Noki fisherman believes that the blockage is polluting the bay. On top of the cork, Mario encounters a Monty Mole manning a cannon. Mario proceeds to defeat the Monty Mole, causing the cannon to explode. The force of the waterfall throws the cork and the cannon with the Monty Mole into the sky. The waterfall is now uncorked, but this is not the reason for the pollution.
Near the end of World 2-6, there is a cork with a Piranha Plant on top of it that is blocking the pipe to the exit. To make the pipe accessible, Mario or Luigi must jump on the nearby pump device three times to send the cork flying, taking the Piranha Plant with it.
Corks are found in KO Arena Pipe-Rock Rumble and KO Arena Fluff-Puff Kerfuff, where they block the pipes that dispense power-ups in these levels' starting rooms; because of the corks, the Bubble Flower cannot be obtained in Pipe-Rock Rumble, and the Drill Mushroom cannot be obtained in either level.
There is a cork with a keyhole that plugs a pipe in Tap-Tap The Red Nose's Fort. It can only be removed with a key from a Slime. Without the key, Yoshi can push down the cork by performing a Pound The Ground

A cork is a Thing found blocking a pipe entrance in Vortex Island, and Mario has to remove it before he can access the parallel universe. The cork is later used against Larry on the Sunset Express, where it blocks the train's chimney, preventing Larry from healing himself with heart smoke coming out of it.
