Pole

Not to be confused with Goal Pole.

Poles are a type of object in the Super Mario series. They first appear in Super Mario 64.

Description

Mario or another character can grab on to a Pole and then move up and down it before jumping off. They can also perform a handstand on certain poles, especially those that are not attached to a ceiling.

Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS

There are yellow and black-striped poles found in the wide room of Dire, Dire Docks. They are attached to the ceiling, where they move back and forth in a set pattern. Poles are the main focus of the mission Pole-Jumping for Red Coins, in which Mario (or Yoshi, Luigi, or Wario in Super Mario 64 DS) has to jump from one Pole to the next and move up and down to collect the eight Red Coins, causing a Power Star to appear over a Star Marker.
