Rope

Ropes are a recurring object within the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario World, and several variations of Ropes have appeared throughout Mario-related media, such as Tightropes and Wires.

In Super Mario World

A Rope is attached to a mechanism on a trail on which it moves back and forth repeatedly, either horizontally or vertically. Mario or Luigi can grab on to a Rope, proving mainly beneficial for if they have to move across a pit. Mario or Luigi cannot grab on to one while riding Yoshi.
