A Gnawsher is an enemy in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Profile

Physical description

A Gnawsher is a spherical enemy with wings and golden teeth. They also appear as a red variant.

Behavior

A Gnawsher moves through the air and chomps through blocks, items, or small enemies. How the Gnawshers behave depends on their colour. When the player approaches the red variant, the Gnawsher starts to follow the player in attempt to attack. Like other enemies, Gnawshers can be defeated by being attacked by a power-up or jumped on.

A swarm of them appears in Gnawsher Lair during a Wonder Effect. The Gnawshers can be stunned in this case by hitting a red-colored POW Block.

Etymology

Their name is derived from the word "Gnaw", which means to chew at something persistently, and "Gnash."
