- Not to be confused with Green Cheep Cheep.
Deep Cheeps (alternatively spelled Deep-Cheeps) are a variant of Cheep Cheep appearing in all installments of the New Super Mario Bros. series, excluding New Super Mario Bros. U. Deep Cheeps first appear in New Super Mario Bros.
Profile
They are a recurring common enemy found in underwater stages. These fish-like enemies are known to act a lot like Cheep Cheeps, but when encountered, they actively seek out Mario and Luigi. They follow the same path Mario and Luigi go when encountered and quit chasing them. When swimming away from them in a distant enough length, Deep Cheeps behave identically to regular Cheep Cheeps. The only physical distinction that Deep Cheeps have from Cheep Cheeps is that they are light green in color.
In Super Mario series
New Super Mario Bros.

Deep Cheeps make their first appearance in New Super Mario Bros. along with their larger sub-species, although they only appear in World 6-5. They behave like regular Cheep Cheeps but as soon as Mario (or Luigi) gets close, they will pursue them until the plumbers swim away at which point the Deep Cheep will continue along it's own path, Deep Cheeps are unable to turn around and continue chasing the plumbers and can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower, Mega Mushroom or Starman.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii

In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Deep Cheeps are slightly more common. One appears in World 1-4 along with a Mega Deep Cheep. If Mario and co. keep staying in the area, another pair of green fish enemies appears. Deep Cheeps can also be encountered in the second part of World 8-4 and various levels of World 4.
In this game, their lips have become pink, like those of a Cheep Cheeps, rather than keeping the red-orange colored lips they previously had. Their dorsal fins and tails have also become yellow, as opposed to white. There is a more relentless enemy similar to Deep Cheep known as Spiny Cheep-Cheep. The Deep Cheeps can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman and can be frozen with the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit.
New Super Mario Bros. 2

Deep Cheeps reappear in New Super Mario Bros. 2, where nothing has changed about their behavior and appearance since New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Deep Cheeps first appear in World Mushroom-2 and some are seen in a couple levels of World 3. Deep Cheeps can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower, Super Leaf, Starman, Mega Mushroom, Invincibility Bell, or Gold Flower. The Mega Deep Cheep also returns in this game.
New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Deep Cheeps did not appear in New Super Mario Bros. U (despite having official artwork for that game). However, they do exist unused in the game's files.
Deep Cheeps went on to appear in New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe where they retain their behavior from the previous games, some Deep Cheeps are also seen being guided by Mega Deep Cheep and can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman and frozen with the effects of an Ice Flower or Penguin Suit just as before. Their only appearance is in Cheep Chomp Chase.
Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2

Deep Cheeps appear in Super Mario Maker as well as its two sequels as placeable enemies in the New Super Mario Bros. U style (replacing the Green Cheep-Cheeps and Blurps from the Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World styles respectively). The Deep Cheeps retain their behavior from the other games (chasing Mario as he gets close) and can mainly appear underwater. A Deep Cheep can be given a Super Mushroom to become a Mega Deep Cheep or wings to become a Winged Deep Cheep. Deep Cheeps can also be placed on land and bounce around the level whenever there isn't any water. In Castles, Deep Cheeps are engulfed in flames and are dangerous to touch. A Deep Cheep can be defeated with the effects of a Fire Flower or Starman.
In Mario Party series
Mario Party 9

Deep Cheeps appear in Mario Party 9. In this game, they are seen swimming around the waters of Blooper Beach rapidly and take leaps around the water. In some cases, a Deep Cheep may jump over the players' vehicle however the Deep Cheeps have no effect on the gameplay and merely swim around the ocean. Deep Cheeps don't make any other appearances in this game and mainly serve as background characters.
In Paper Mario series
Paper Mario: Sticker Star / Paper Mario: Color Splash
Deep Cheeps were supposed to appear in Paper Mario: Sticker Star, but were taken out of the game for unknown reasons. Likewise, they were also intended to appear in Paper Mario: Color Splash as well but were taken out of that game as well.
In Mario Kart series
Mario Kart Tour
Deep Cheeps don't physically appear in Mario Kart Tour. However, the Cheep Cheep Mask Glider is made up of a Deep Cheep alongside a Cheep Cheep and an Eep-Cheep.
Trivia
- The Green Cheep Charger from Mario Kart Tour resembles a Deep Cheep.
- Deep-Cheeps have the same color scheme as the Mr. Kipper enemy in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
- Of all the green variations of Cheep-Cheep in the Super Mario Maker games, the Deep-Cheep is the only one that behaves differently from an average Cheep-Cheep.
- New Super Mario Bros. U is the only New Super Mario Bros. game to not feature the Deep-Cheep (although it does exist in the game's files and did receive an official artwork for the game).
