Marzid

The illuminated Marzid[1] was the eleventh Sun-King of the Carja tribe.

History

Succeeding Sun-King Nahasis, Sun-King Marzid was known for the visions from the Sun so vivid and grand he experienced as well as his artistic and visionary nature, being a painter and commissioning statues and frescoes in his image throughout Meridian.[1]

Citadel

During the sixth year of his reign, Marzid visited the little-used fortress of Sunfall. There in the desert heat, Marzid received a vision of an ornate Citadel with a dome of metal so polished it would greet the dawn and catch the rays of the Sun's last shining at dusk. At once, he ordered the dedication of the Sundom's resources to building the Citadel, which would serve as his summer palace for many years. Marzid brought many members of the Sun-Court, nobles and artisans with him, transforming Sunfall from a little-used fortress to an artisan city with a prominent place in the Sundom's culture.[2]

Death

Marzid died in the Citadel at Sunfall,[2] his illness caused by his own beloved pigments.[1] For his state funeral, a line of torches was laid across the Daybrink, ensuring that he would go in light as his body was brought to the Alight for burial.[2]

Sun-King Marzid was succeeded by his older brother, the Radiant Hivas.[1]

Trivia

  • Marzid is the earliest Sun-King for whom records of his length of reign can be found ("many years" more than six years).
  • Marzid referred to Verdant Blooms as "Hidden Wisdom".[3]
  • Mournful Namman mentions that his robes were dyed using cinnabar,[4] which is a highly toxic material that causes a variety of neurological and physical damage to the human body. This could also be the reason why Marzid experienced visions and ultimately fell dealthy ill by his own pigments.
