Janeva is the warden of the Carja prison known as Sunstone Rock.
History
Janeva chose to become a soldier at a young age, one good enough to join Sun-King Avad's honor guard. Janeva became aware of rumors about what they were, leading to them threatening to break the arms of those who tested them. After following through with the threat enough times, these rumors died down.[1]
Janeva was successful in joining Avad's honor guard, being assigned to the position of warden at Sunstone Rock because they believed that all criminals weren't capable of changing, Avad hoped that the experience would educate Janeva otherwise. Fortunately, this was successful as Janeva saw that indeed, some criminals did change for the better.[1]
Nil mentions that at some point, he and Janeva fought together, and against each other, although the details as to what happened aren't elaborated on.[2]
Horizon Zero Dawn
One of their prisoners, Rasgrund, smuggled a machine lure into Sunstone Rock and used it to lure two Behemoths to attack the prison in order to escape, with him, Ullia and Gavan being among the several prisoners who escaped during the chaos.[1] After destroying the Behemoths, Aloy was sent inside to speak with Janeva, who informed her about Ullia, Rasgrund and Gavan, offering the huntress a bounty for each of them and reveals what little information they know about their possible whereabouts. After returning from the successful hunt, Janeva was thankful.[3]
While preparing for the inevitable attack from the Eclipse, Avad had Blameless Marad offer the prisoners at Sunstone Rock a royal pardon if they'd fight for Meridian, which they all accepted.[4] Janeva went to the ridge outside Meridian Village, greeting Aloy there.[5] However, when the battle begins, Janeva is nowhere to be found,[6] leaving their fate unknown.

Trivia
- Janeva's gender is not stated. Given that they deny Aloy calling them a woman and state that they are "not one of [her] sisters", Janeva is definitely not a woman, being more likely that they are either trans-masculine, nonbinary or are a cisman who has been mistaken for a woman, but prefers that people do not push them for their gender.[1] Additionally, Janeva is never referred to with any pronouns.
- When scanned with the Focus, Janeva is represented with a model more typical to that of females, indicating that they are an AFAB person.
