Irid

"The glory of the Carja is the Sun's glory, reflected. We Sun-Priests are but glimmers of its great light."
―Reverent Irid[1]

Reverent Irid is a minor character in Horizon Zero Dawn.

History

Irid grew up in Meridian Village and now lives in Meridian. His duties as a Sun-Priest require him to travel to distant lands.[1]

Horizon Zero Dawn

Irid was sent as part of the envoy sent by Sun-King Avad to visit the Nora tribe during their Proving ceremony and deliver a message of apology for the actions of the 13th Sun-King. Welcomed by High Matriarchs Jezza and Teersa, he began to read Avad's message to the Nora. However, still bitter over the Red Raids, his audience started pelting him with fruit, which Irid mistook for stones. Luckily for Irid, Erend stepped forward and soothed the Nora, explaining Irid was delivering an apology. With the crowd successfully calmed, Irid continued without interruption.[2]

After the blessing, Aloy approached Irid, who introduced himself and explained the Carja culture to her.[2]

Aloy later meets Irid again in Meridian at the Temple of the Sun, where he told her about the Temple and the practices of Carja worship, along with asking Aloy to speak to his friend Namman, later complimenting him on his successful efforts of reconciliation.[3]

Personality

Reverent Irid

Irid is devout to the traditions of the Sun-Priesthood, seeing himself as an instrument of the Sun-King's will, and believing the Sun-King to be infallible by nature, along with it being a masculine entity that would only choose Sun-Kings, never a Sun-Queen. He appears for the most part to be a good-natured man, although his dedication to his culture limits his ability to interact with other tribes.

Trivia

  • If The Sun Shall Fall has been completed before speaking to Irid for the first time at the Temple of the Sun, he will have an additional line acknowledging Aloy's rescue of Avad.
