Yagorath ▶️ is a Front Line Champion in Paladins, added on February 3rd, 2021.
Lore
This is Yagorath's official bio currently found in her champion page in-game.
Your joys and hopes. Your fears and doubts. All your petty conflicts. Utterly devoid of meaning.
She is Yagorath, the Devourer. She is what it is to consume – absolutely. Everything that is not already her is assimilated, spreading her being across the universe in a never-ending hunger. Momentarily weakened by the futile actions of a broken goddess, she now emerges to bring an end to what was started – the only end that could possibly be. Even though Azaan has delayed this, it is only a matter of time. She is the Maw & it will consume all.
This is an unofficial version of Yagorath's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding her. Sources can be found here.
A separate, yet small piece of the universe-subsuming threat known as the Darkness, Yagorath arrived in the Realm centuries ago, shattering the moon to pieces and destroying all surrounding life where she landed in the Realm, but also being imprisoned within shards of the moon by its goddess Io.
For centuries, Yagorath remained sealed deep in the Shattered Desert, with a martial order of guards composed of Io's followers being created to protect the seal. However, over time, Yagorath slowly began to leak out.
Eventually, Yagorath had emerged enough to begin slowly and painfully killing the guardians, with only one of them, Vora, remaining alive. As a nearby battle between the Magistrate and Resistance unfolded, Yagorath made an offer to the now broken Vora, transforming the former guardian into Yagorath's own personal harbinger. As Vora left to cause chaos, Yagorath finally emerged from her seal after centuries of confinement.
Though the time-traveler Atlas would gather a group of champions to fight the beast before it could leave the Shattered Desert, despite their best efforts, Yagorath would still manage to leave, growing larger and attacking Crosswind Hold, leaving behind a massive trail of destruction, battling characters such as Atlas and Octavia numerous times, while attacking others like Barik and Rei.
After over a year of her rampage, during another battle with Octavia, this time joined by Furia, Yagorath appeared to be winning once again, until Azaan, the Eternal, descended into the Realm, having arrived to deal with the growing influence of the Abyss, decided to deal with the other threat of the Darkness, easily defeating Yagorath and resealing the monster.
Summary
Yagorath is a large and exotic Frontline champion with a very big health pool, as well as an eccentric and long list of abilities. Her main focus is swapping between Planted Form; a stationary, highly defensive/damage-focused form, and Travel Form; a high mobility/utility-focused form. She is, however, incredibly vulnerable to focused fire and percentage-based damage when Planted, due to her large size and lack of mobility, and when mobile, Yagorath loses out on her defensive capabilities.
Skills
With her Passive, "Immovable", Yagorath has significant damage resistance when in her immobile Planted Form, while in her mobile Travel Form, she is one of the fastest Champions. Regardless of form, Yagorath is immune to knockbacks while also converting more exotic forms of Crowd Control into Stuns.
Yagorath's primary fires are Planted's Caustic Spray, which fires acid and creates acid pools, and Travel Form's Trail of Acid, which leaves behind acid pools as she travels. These pools deal damage over time and slow enemies within.
Yagorath's secondary fires are Planted's Piercing Quills, which fires a quill that pierces enemies and shields, and also explodes for additional damage, and Travel Form's Acceleration, which has her charge forward at dramatic speed, knocking back and damaging enemies in the way.
Her primary abilities are Planted's Hardening, which makes Yagorath hunker down for a few seconds, granting her Stun immunity, and creating a growing acid pool beneath her that can grant teammates damage resistance. The ability deals damage in a sizeable area after it's over. In Travel Form, she activates Primal Vision, which sends out pulses that reveal enemies nearby.
Her secondary ability, Form Swap, lets her actively switch forms, changing her capabilities and size.
Devour, Yagorath's Ultimate Ability, which is only usable when in Planted form, has her swap to a different health pool, and begins to pull an enemy slowly towards her. If the enemy is pulled close, Yagorath eats them, requiring the attention of the entire enemy team to save their teammate.
Talents and Cards
Yagorath's talents provide her with the following:
- Provide Yagorath more damage from Caustic Spray and her acid pools as well as increasing the Movement Speed of allies within them, with Corrosive Acid.
- Yagorath's Primal Vision provides allies temporary shielding and increased Movement Speed, with Sight Begets Strength.
- Give Yagorath increased healing from others while in Hardening, with Unnatural Persistence.
Most of Yagorath's cards provide her further durability, self-healing, or further augmentations to her abilities.

Trivia
Lore
- Although Yagorath looks and acts incredibly evil, she doesn't consider herself evil, as she views the other characters as food, or as though she's stepping on ants.[2]
- Though it seems Vora's responsible for letting Yagorath free, it's implied that Yagorath was slowly breaking out regardless. It's also implied that Yagorath was the one responsible for Vora's fellow warriors dying.[3]
- Every champion that was involved against Yagorath, even those not shown in her teaser trailer, were indeed canonically present during the battle (including characters such as Io, Jenos, Imani, Furia, and even Valera), while those with followings brought foot soldiers and grunts to aid them as well. The reason these soldiers and not every champion was shown was due to simply not being able to include everyone in a single trailer, so the developers instead attempted to pick characters whose presence would "say something". The soldiers, meanwhile, were claimed to be absent due to the focus being on the playable characters, though it's likely other reasons include no soldiers actually being modeled at the time, as well as including them likely resulting in even more champions being visibly excluded.[4][5]
- While it may appear Yagorath fled from Rei and Khan after attacking them in the former's trailer, she really just left to attack others on the battlefield.[6]
- Yagorath is currently defeated and sealed away once more following her encounter with Azaan, but not completely dead. At the very least, Azaan's appearance marks the end of the "Darkness Arc".[7][8][9][10]
- Yagorath's rampage lasted for over a year.[11]
- Despite seeming as if Yagorath herself is the Darkness, Yagorath is both separate, but also only a piece of this larger threat from beyond the Realm.[12][13]
- Yagorath has consumed other worlds prior to the Realm.[14]
- Yagorath grows larger and more powerful as she consumes mass, with the Yagorath in-game being a sort of "stage-0".[15][16]
- It's been implied that when Yagorath grows large enough, she may be able to create creatures such as the ones that attacked Atlas in his teaser trailer.[17]
- It's been implied there's more than one Yagorath in the Realm, though whether this refers to multiple different Darkness creatures, or if Yagorath managed to grow large enough to spawn additional monsters was never clarified.[18][19]
- Azaan wouldn't be able to defeat the future version of Yagorath from the Lost Future by himself.[20]
- Yagorath doesn't physically speak with her mouth, but instead uses some form of thought projection, though Yagorath may not be projecting words in particular.[21]
- Yagorath's body is composed of a material beyond understanding.[22]
- Yagorath's Primal Vision reveals nearby enemies via their heartbeats, though how this works on champions that lack literal working hearts (such as Bomb King, Grover, Dredge and possibly others) was never explained.[23]
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Yagorath's in-game "stage-0" appearance would be around 26'5 or 8m long, while adding her horns brings Yagorath to around 29'6 or 9m long; though Yagorath's idle animation usually only has her standing at a height of around 12'5 or 3.8m, while adding her horns brings Yagorath to around 15'4 or 4.6m. Despite this, as can be seen in trailers after and including Octavia's teaser trailer, Yagorath has grown far larger in lore.

- Yagorath's kill taunt against Koga "Yes, I am going to eat that; after you." (▶️) references Koga's line "You gonna eat that?" (▶️).
- The joke "What? You don't like the spikes?" (▶️) may be a reference to Paladins artist ThunderBrush and his fondness of spikes, which occasionally leads to annoyance from some of the Paladins community.
- The "Carnage Dance" emote is a reference to the song Caramelldansen.
- Yagorath design closely resembles the Hydralisks from StarCraft.
- Yagorath's nature of moving from planet to planet, devouring them all in an effort to satiate her endless hunger is reminiscent of the Marvel character Galactus.
- Yagorath is also reminiscent to the Tyranids from Warhammer 40k for similar reasons.
- Cho'Gath from League of Legends is yet another character Yagorath shares similarities with, such as some design similarities and focus on eating, which allows them to grow stronger and larger.
Promotion
- As with previous champions, in order to promote Yagorath, Paladins artist Thunderbrush would change his Twitter profile picture and banner a number of times. The first change occurred on October 2nd, 2020 (prior to Vora releasing) where he would change his profile picture to this image, which seems to be the image used in the reflection of Octavia's scope in her splash art.
- The next change would come on December 1st, 2020, where he would change his banner to this image, which would later be revealed as the lower portion of Yagorath's default splash art.
- The final change would occur on December 15th, 2020, which featured his banner being changed once again to this image, which would later be revealed as being an edited version of Yagorath's card Dreadful Compact.
- Yagorath would also be teased in other manners. A special piece of artwork was posted on the official Paladins Twitter on December 25th, 2020 in order to celebrate Christmas. In the image, there are various teasers of Yagorath, including a number of spiked red tentacles, a partially obscured stocking that appears to have Yagorath's name, as well as a picture of Yagorath above the fireplace.[26]
- Another part of Yagorath's promotion was influencer packages. From January 3rd, 2020 to January 6th, 2020, packages were sent to various Paladins influencers. These packages were sent by Atlas from his original timeline, as revealed in said promotions, and each contained a satchel, inside of which were unique letters, as well as an object relating to the specific character discussed in the letter.
- AndrewChicken's package can be viewed here, while the letter specifically can be viewed here. This package came with a torn piece of cloth, most likely belonging to Viktor.
- The letter reads as follows: "Viktor found himself prey to an unrelenting hunger. Like an inexorably grinding millstone, the beast tore through every obstacle set before it in pursuit of its quarry. There was no escape for the Lone Wolf."
- KewneDragon's package can be viewed here, while the letter specifically can be viewed here. This package came with three feathers, most likely belonging to Strix.
- The letter reads as follows: "Strix fired upon the mountain of hate that was the Maw made manifest. The creature reeled back as it rained down a grim ichor. Everything the ravenous vile touched was burned away in an instant, and Ghost Feather was no more."
- Syberbolt's package can be viewed here, while the letter specifically can be viewed here. This package came with a ring encrusted with a red gem, most likely belonging to Karne.
- The letter reads as follows: "Karne stood his ground before the monstrosity as it unfurled, its cavernous maw festooned with jagged outcrops and cruelly shaped bones. Beyond those gnashing teeth, there was only darkness: the last thing the Magister would ever see."
- Kreeper's package can be viewed here, while the letter specifically can be viewed here. This package came with a small portion of blonde hair, most likely belonging to Valera.
- The letter reads as follows: "Valera, who tamed mountains and felled dragons, rose up once again to defend the Realm. She met the beast in battle, trading blow for blow with the behemoth, but to no avail. Even she was overwhelmed by the endless maw."
- AndrewChicken's package can be viewed here, while the letter specifically can be viewed here. This package came with a torn piece of cloth, most likely belonging to Viktor.
- Yagorath's standard teasers can be seen here:
- (Teaser 1) "An awakening... And a hunger for destruction."
- (Teaser 2) "My precious harbinger began what I will finish. I cannot be stopped."
- (Teaser 3) "The outcome will always be the same, no matter the timeline. I am the beginning of the end."
- (Teaser 4) "Many have united against me... Only to be consumed together."
- (Teaser 5) "The Maw hungers. Let us feast."
Concepts
- Yagorath's design was originally slightly different, featuring a more insect-like design and only one set of claws near her mouth.[27][28]
- She was also originally meant to fire projectiles from her claw arms.[29]
- Yagorath was originally going to move by digging through the ground, but it was decided she should roll around instead due to potential odd interactions with thin platforms.[30]
Other
- Vora was initially more monstrous in appearance, but it was decided to split this side of Vora away into a "spin-off" champion, which became Yagorath, supposedly so Vora could shine more as a character.[31] Initially, the idea was that Vora would eventually transform into Yagorath herself.[32]
- Yagorath was initially intended to launch during 2020, but ended up pushed into 2021, likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[33]
- Vora and Yagorath had their voice packs recorded at the same time.[34]
- Yagorath has by far the most cameos of other champions in her cards and teaser trailer, with a total of 20 champion appearances (as well as Octavia); nearly half the playable roster of the time Yagorath released.
- Though Yagorath is the only champion with lines related to New Years and Valentines Day publicly available (▶️ ▶️), it was mentioned that all champions have lines related to these and many other holidays in the event a trailer involving a champion is released around one of these holidays.[35]
- Yagorath's model and abilities makes creating skins for her a lot of work.[36]
- Two alternate versions of the card Extermination were created. One of them features a slightly different sky, and also doesn't feature Yagorath's wings, while the other version is the same as the original, but doesn't feature Yagorath, as the image was used for promotional material prior to her reveal.
- An alternate version of the card Dreadful Compact was created and features Vora covered in shadows.
- An alternate version of Yagorath's icon can be seen featured on the official Paladins champion site. The image can be seen here and noticeably is an image of Yagorath's in-game model in a different pose.
- Yagorath originally had a different splash art that showed her in space.[37]
- Yagorath's sound effects apparently incorporate the usage of chicken salad and macaroni.[38]
- Yagorath is currently the only champion that can't ride a mount. She sort of shares this trait with extremely early versions of Ruckus, who initially had Bolt transform into a flying vehicle rather than mount, though this functioned the same as regular mounts.[39]
- Yagorath, Nyx, and Rei are the only champions who do not have weapons.
- Yagorath's internal name was "Worm Momma".[40]
Champion Skins
Grave Worm
- This skin may be named after a heavy metal band of the same name.
- The name and coloration of the skin may also be a reference to the Gravemind from the Halo series and the Flood in general, a very similar entity that travels between planets with an endless hunger for biomass.
Caustic
- Caustic is the ability to burn or corrode organic tissue via chemicals.
- Though marked as 'Exclusive' in-game, this skin is intended to be 'Limited', as has been mentioned various times.[41]
Leviathan
- This skin had many unused concepts before the final design was settled on, notably featuring designs based on lobsters. More concepts reveal potential recolors this skin could've received.[42]
- Viktor's modern design appears in this skin's teaser.
- This skin shares its theme with Mermaid Ying, Siren Ying, Mernos Jenos, Ripjaw Buck, Great Orange Buck, Marauder Tyra, Royal Mark Tyra, Sea Queen Saati, and Crimson Tide Saati.
Cuddly
- Plush versions of Ash, Atlas, Io, Lex, Sha Lin, Viktor (new design), and Vora all appear in this skin's splash art.
- Io and Vora also appear on the skin itself.
- This skin appears in the Feeling Cute, Io Love You, and A-Vora-Ble avatars, with the plush versions of Io and Vora appearing in the latter two respectively.
- The latter two avatars noticeably feature the plush Io and Vora on the wrong arms.
- The Big Smile loading frame is also based on this skin.
- This skin shares its theme with Cuddly Makoa, Plushy Makoa, Prosperous Makoa, and Cuddly Moji.
- Plush versions of Ash, Atlas, Io, Lex, Sha Lin, Viktor (new design), and Vora all appear in this skin's splash art.
