Barik ▶️ is a Front Line Champion in Paladins, added on November 17th, 2015.

This is Barik's official bio currently found in his champion page in-game.


Long before he came to the Deepwerks and helped develop the crystal-powered technology spreading throughout the Realm, Barik was a clever inventor and resourceful engineer.

Since then, his signature contributions have appeared in almost every field and vocation, from mechanized mining suits and rocket-powered wings, to the crystalline weapons used by Magistrate and Resistance soldiers alike.

After a falling-out with a corrupt Magistrate commander who wanted to turn the Deepwerks into a weapon refinery, he left and pledged his services to Valera and the Resistance. Now, he works to equip the Paladins for their next fight against all those who could harm the Realm.

This is an unofficial version of Barik's bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding him. Sources can be found here.


A clever inventor and resourceful engineer, Barik would eventually join the Magistrate facility known as Deepwerks, where he would help create many pieces of crystal-powered technology that initially swept the Realm following their discovery, notably creating new goblin mining suits, such as the one used by Ruckus, crystal-powered wings that would eventually come into the possession of Drogoz, and the various weapons later used by both the Magistrate and Resistance.

However, Barik would leave Deepwerks after a falling out with a corrupt Magistrate commander, instead pledging his allegiance to Valera and the Resistance.

This was Barik's in-game bio prior to the The Damned Frontier update. It's no longer considered canon.

Like most of his kin, Barik is loud, obnoxious, and lacks subtlety. All traits that serve him well in his profession as a Ruins Raider. No shrine, temple, or crypt is safe if Barik is around. Using devices of his own invention, and with an eye to turn a profit, Barik plunders all, and has made a name for himself in Crosswind Hold.

Summary

Barik is a front-line champion who specializes in area control with high damage and flexible mobility. However, he has a low health pool and takes time to fully get set up. Mixed with his limited range, Barik struggles when focused upon with a lot of damage all at once.

Skills

Barik's primary fire is Blunderbuss, which fires multiple pellets with a large spread and limited range, dealing hefty damage in a single well-placed shot.
His secondary fire is Barricade; a tall shield that can protect Barik and his team from fire.
Turret, Barik's primary ability, allows him to place up to two turrets that do supplemental damage, fit for the close-quarters area that Barik specializes in.
His movement ability is Rocket Boots, allowing him to quickly dash forward at high speed and fast control, mixed with his small size he becomes a harder target to hit.
His Ultimate ability is Dome Shield, which deploys a powerful flamethrower turret protected by a large dome-shaped shield, ideal for area denial and immense damage output within its radius.

Talents and Cards

Barik's talents provide him with the following:

  • Increase the health and reduce the cooldown of Barricade with Fortify.
  • Barik's Blunderbuss Instead of firing multiple hitscan pellets with spread, fires a single high damage slug with Tinkerin.
  • Replacing his singular Flamethrower Turret with a shield on Dome Shield with up to two smaller, shieldless Flamethrower Turrets that have an infinite duration with Forgefire.

Most of Barik's cards focus on healing, modifying his turrets, and reducing his cooldowns.

Lore

  • Splitstone Quarry plays a part in Barik's backstory, though what exactly this involves was never been elaborated on.[2]
  • Barik is the one who created the crystal-powered wings used by Drogoz.[3] Though how Drogoz obtained the wings is unknown.
  • Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Barik would be around 4'2 or 128cm tall.

  • Several of his voice lines are references to the character Gimli from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, such as his death quote "Not the beard!" (▶️) and his ultimate voice line "Last one standing wins!" (▶️).
    • Both Gimli and Barik are dwarves with a Scottish accent and a long orange beard.


Other

  • Barik was one of the first playable characters in Paladins.
  • Barik and Makoa share the same voice actor, the late Brad Venable.
  • Barik is one of the more difficult champions to create skins for due to having a lot of things done wrong with him when he was first created.[5]
  • Talus refers to Barik as "Mr. B" in his teaser trailer, though doesn't do so in-game.[6]
  • While Barik wearing Lian's dress present in the Classy Barik and Classy Cutout sprays are heavily requested as skins, it can't be made into one due to "cost" reasons.[7]
  • An unreleased skin for Barik known as "Spec Ops" was present in the game's data during Closed Beta, but was later removed. This included a completely unique voice pack.
  • In older versions of Paladins, there used to be a number of additional recolors of default champions. For Barik, these recolors included the Artisan and Tinkerer skins. These recolors also exist for Barik's modern design as well.
  • Having been present in the mobile game 'Paladins Strike', Barik received unique skins exclusive to Strike. These skins include Blacksmith Barik, Logan Barik, and Santa Barik.
