Ruckus ▶️ is a Front Line Champion in Paladins, added on November 17th, 2015.
Lore
This is Ruckus' official bio currently found in his champion page in-game.
While toiling in the gold mines, a particularly wily and inventive goblin named Ruckus stumbled upon the long-lost mind-stone of a fallen war-golem. He installed the relic into his mechanical digging suit, hoping it would provide the suit with enough power to outperform the other miners. He was quite surprised when the ancient sentience reawakened and brought the suit to life.
Though it resented its situation, its pilot, and the name it was given, Bolt nonetheless agreed to a tentative partnership, one that freed them both to scour the Realm in search of fame, fortune, and upgrades.
This is an unofficial version of Ruckus' bio intended to more clearly present all currently known information regarding him. Sources can be found here.
Once a regular goblin miner, Ruckus eventually stumbled upon the long lost mind stone of an ancient war-golem, which he installed within his mechanical digging suit, merely hoping it would allow him to outperform the other miners. However, the stone instead brought the digging suit to life. While the consciousness, which Ruckus dubbed "Bolt", resented what had become of it, he nonetheless agreed to a tentative partnership with Ruckus, as they both headed out into the Realm in search of fame, fortune, and upgrades.
This was Ruckus' in-game bio prior to the The Damned Frontier update. It's no longer considered canon.

This was Ruckus' bio on the official Paladins website in the extremely early days of Paladins.[1] Naturally, it's no longer considered canon
Upon his death, the majestic Elven King Boltanas bound his soul into the blade T'lonmar, so that he might forever defend his kingdom from the Goblin Hordes of Ozmendar. Ruckus found his blade, melted it down, and built his war machine from it. Many think being bound to a goblin would be insufferable, and "Bolt" would agree... and he makes sure Ruckus never forgets it.
Summary
Ruckus is a front-line champion with high damage, mobility, durability, and the tools needed to engage in aggressive fights against different kinds of enemies. However, he's susceptible to those who can punish his dive attempts and/or stall him, which makes him fight the clock to get what needs to be done and survive.
Skills
Ruckus' primary fire is a twin set of miniguns capable of doing high damage while slowing Ruckus down during their fire.
Missile Launcher is his secondary fire; 3 separate charges that send out two rockets with a flat damage radius, allowing room for bursts of damage.
His primary ability is Emitter, granting Ruckus durable and immediate personal shielding.
For Ruckus' movement ability, he has 2 charges of Advance; thrusters that allow Ruckus to jet omnidirectionally while allowing Ruckus to maintain minigun fire.
His ultimate ability is Hexa Fire, where Ruckus unleashes 4 miniguns and 2 rocket launchers onto his enemies, slowing him to a crawl as he outputs immense firepower.
Talents and Cards
Ruckus' talents provide him with the following:
- Emmiter has its cooldown reduced, and the shield provided an increase in health, and while the shield is active, he's granted Crowd Control Immunity with, Flux Generator.
- Ruckus' Missile Launchers gain increased Area-of-Effect radius with Rocket Barrage
- Advance receives an additional charge with Aerial Assault.
Most of Ruckus' cards focus on providing him with increased durability, ammo regeneration, and cooldown reduction.

Trivia
Lore
- Ruckus spends his time collecting scraps from battlefields to construct mechs.[2]
- Ruckus fought alongside both the Magistrate and Resistance during the End Times event.[3][4] It's unknown why he joined them.
- Ruckus and Bolt seem to have some connection to Cassie.[5]
- Bolt's mind stone is a crystal and naturally holds some magical power.[6]
- Bolt is specifically the name of the mech, not the name of the character in the crystal.[7]
- Based on a dev statement revealing Viktor to be around 5'9 or 175cm tall and comparing it to model sizes in-game and out of game, it was discovered that Ruckus would be around 1'5 or 44cm tall, while Bolt would be around 6'6 or 197cm tall.
Cameos
Ruckus appears in the following content:
- Cinematics and Trailers
- Champions of the Realm - Cinematic*
- Avatars
- Sprays
References
- The line, "Roll out!" (▶️), may be a reference to the Transformers and their signature catchphrase, "Autobots, roll out."
Other
- Ruckus was one of the first playable characters in Paladins.
- Ruckus is one of the more difficult champions to create skins for due to Ruckus and Bolt being separate characters.[12]
- Originally, instead of mounting normally, Bolt would transform into a flying vehicle; though this was largely only aesthetic and functioned the same as regular mounting.[13]
- Regardless, this technically makes Ruckus one of the few champions that was incapable of mounting, sharing this trait with Yagorath.
- Ruckus' codename was "Mech".[14]
- He and Viktor are voiced by the same voice actor.
- In an early trailer for the game, Bolt uses voice clips from the Star Slayer skin, despite earlier appearances feature the default voice pack. It's unknown if this was an error, a change that was canceled, or something else entirely.
- Ruckus was originally free, but eventually changed to cost 15,000
Gold or 100
Crystals in the RWBY update.
- In older versions of Paladins, there used to be a number of additional recolors of default champions. For Ruckus, these recolors included the Gizmo and Assembly skins, as well as version of the Sprocket skin. These recolors also exist for Ruckus' modern design as well.
- Having been present in the mobile game 'Paladins Strike', Ruckus received a unique skin exclusive to Strike. This skin would be War Machine Ruckus.
Champion Skins
Sprocket
- A sprocket is a profiled wheel with cogs.
B.E.T.A. / H.A.W.K.
- The B.E.T.A. skin was Ruckus' default skin until it was reworked on July 26, 2017. The name also references this fact.
Lil'Andy
- This skin features Ruckus dressed up as Androxus.
- This is Ruckus' only skin that doesn't change Bolt's appearance.
Robo Force
- This skin originally had a different splash art.[15]
- This skin was part of the 1st Battle Pass alongside Exarch Jenos and Neon Demon Grohk.
- Bolt's appearance in this skin may be a reference to Ride Armor from Mega Man X.
- The logo on Bolt's left shoulder is reminiscent of the Mega Man X group Repliforce's logo.
- Bolt's voice is a reference to the Power Rangers' character Alpha 5.
- The line "Bolt: "Ayay-yayae-yaya-yaeeee!"" (▶️) is a direct reference to the character's iconic exclamation.
Star Slayer
- The line, 'Bolt: "What is my purpose?" Ruckus: "You listen to me!"' (▶️) Is a reference to a line from Rick and Morty.
- The line 'Ruckus: "Bolt, open the rear hatch!" Bolt: "I'm sorry Ruckus, I'm afraid I can't do that."' (▶️) is a reference to a line from the 2001 film A Space Odyssey.
- Many lines are references to Star Wars. Some examples include, the line 'Ruckus: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."' (▶️) being a reference to a line from Star Wars.
- The lines Ruckus: "Stay on target..." (▶️) and Bolt: "Stay on target." (▶️) reference another line from Star Wars.
- The lines Ruckus: "I have the high ground!" (▶️) and the death line towards Drogoz, Bolt: "You had... the high ground..." (▶️) reference a line from Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith.
- The line Bolt: "32% chance of survival." Ruckus: "Never tell me the odds."' (▶️) is a reference to a line from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
- The line 'Ruckus: "I find my lack of health... disturbing." (▶️) is also a reference to a line from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
Pirate's Treasure / Eight Oceans
- These skins are the only ones to not feature Bolt speak.
- Eight Oceans' color scheme is likely based on ghost ships.
- The Pirate's Treasure skin appears in the Redbeard avatar.
- These skins share their theme with Swashbuckler Barik, Dutchman Makoa, Pirate's Treasure Io, and Eight Oceans Io, Pirate's Treasure Maeve, and Eight Oceans Maeve.
