The ominous vault is a less common variant of the vault. They are found in trial chambers and can only be opened with an ominous trial key depending. Ominous vaults can only be used once per player.

Mining an ominous vault with any items will drop nothing, even if mined with Silk Touch, this makes ominous vault unobtainable in Survival without glitches. Ominous vault takes a long time to be mined, and will take the same amount of time regardless of the items used to mine.

Natural generation
Ominous vaults usually generate higher up than normal vaults, and are embedded in the chamber's walls. Beebom[1] has a full guide on finding and opening Ominous Vaults.
