Summary
It's just everyone's New Years.
On New Year’s Day, Tadano, Hitomi and Najimi end up playing video games well into the night. This causes Tadano to sleep in until the afternoon, and wakes up to find Najimi has spent the night there. Najimi then declares that after Tadano finishes his lunch, they should get a group together to visit the shrine for Hatsumode. Once Tadano is finished, Najimi starts making calls: First, Najimi tries to contact Komi but gets no response. They leave a voicemail, but phrase it such that Tadano initially thinks that Najimi is actually talking with Komi. Next, Najimi contacts Yamai, who declines because she's vacationing in Hawaii. Najimi then decides to troll Yamai by claiming it’s a shame since Komi will be there, causing Yamai to throw an angry fit and hang up; Tadano finds that he admires the prank. Najimi reaches out to Nakanaka next. Nakanaka has spent the New Year’s trying hard to complete an event in a gacha game called PGO. Najimi ends up calling her just as the event ends, accidentally ruining her progress. She wails on the phone in dismay, but Najimi claims that she'll still come. Agari is next, and she has mostly been spending time eating mochi. While eating some, she starts to choke on it when Najimi calls her, but still picks up the phone and gags on the line. Yadano goes next, and she is playing badminton with her older brother Katsuki. She nearly gains the upper hand on him when Najimi calls her, breaking her concentration and causing her to lose. In her place, Katsuki answers the call for Yadano and says that he thinks she'll be able to go to the shrine with them afterward while Yadano herself growls in frustration.
Eventually Najimi starts complaining that they're doing all of the work, so Tadano takes over the phone calls.
Tadano first contacts Onemine, only for her younger brother Kazuya to answer. Onemine then scolds and wacks her brother. As Kazuya cries in the background, Onemine agrees to meet them at the shrine later, then goes back to scolding her siblings, horrifying Tadano. Tadano then tries to contact Otori , who takes so long to answer that Najimi starts playing cards with Hitomi out of boredom. When Otori does answer, she agrees to come, but then expresses surprise to know that it is New Year’s, as she has been who has been watching a zen video of a fireplace since Christmas, shocking Tadano. Tadano then calls Kataic who is doing push-ups under the surveillance of his sister Ai. Seeing that Tadano is calling him, Katai gets flustered and answers in a muffled voice. Tadano then calls some other friends: Inaka didn't receive the call because she is still in the country where there is no signal; Netsuko was in a race cheering on others racers; and the popular were busy eating burgers at a restaurant, but Najimi is confident they'll come eventually.
Once they are done, Tadano suggests he try Komi again, but when Najimi and Hitomi teasingly grin in response, he gets flustered at their romantic implications, and as a result, ends up not doing so. It proves to be moot, as Komi - who was driving back from the country - calls Najimi back and agrees to visit them at the temple, all while Najimi and Hitomi continue to tease Tadano. Afterward, everyone they invited (sans Yamai, Inaka, and Netsuko) arrives at the entrance and follows Najimi's lead by racing into the temple area, aside from Komi and Tadano. Alone together, they wish each other a happy New Year, but Komi also tells Tadano thanks. Not noticing this, Tadano suggests they head to the temple, and Komi becomes restless as they do. Interpreting this as her wanting to chase after the rest, Tadano agrees that they should do so, and they scamper to the temple. Everyone gets fortunes at the top. Komi’s is excellent luck, but when Tadano asks what she got, she hides it and looks at him bashfully.
It's just ice skating.
After the Hatsumode trip, Katai comes up with a plan to ask Tadano to hang out, only to refer to it as a date. The plan is for them to go ice skating together, with Katai hoping to solidify Tadano as a male friend. He eventually calls Tadano, but gets so nervous he cannot speak coherently. However, Tadano manages to deduce what he is saying and accepts the offer, but asks if he can invite others. Although Katai wanted it to be only them, he still agrees. They meet the following morning, with Tadano having only also brought Komi along (Najimi had to turn down the invitation). Komi is still terrified of Katai, and him with her, but Katai composes himself by rationalizing that Komi accepted to observe and support him. When the three eventually get to the ice rink, Katai tries to lead, but slips on the ice and slides straight down it. As it turns out, despite it being all his idea, Katai has never gone ice skating before in his entire life, and neither has Komi. As the only one to have done so before, Tadano volunteers to teach them. He first tries to teach them how to start moving, but Komi suddenly launches forward. As she moves, Tadano catches up with her and starts to teach Komi how to stop, the two not realizing they are holding hands as they do so. However, Komi also overshoots the stopping, causing to spin into Tadano and lightly collide with each other, flustering both of them. Seeing this, Katai starts to realize that they like each other, only to immediately misinterpret the situation as an instruction from Komi to do the same (complete with the hand holding) to bond better with Tadano. In his attempt to get balanced to do so, Katai slips backward, but is caught by Tadano. The two of them eventually do holds hands while Tadano helps Katai skate, making Komi jealous again. Eventually, Katai manages to skate, and he and Tadano smile at each other, which Komi again misinterprets as a gay moment.
It's just a cold.
Hitomi and her and Tadano’s mother are going to the hot springs, but Tadano stays behind because he has a fever. Although Hitomi offers to stay behind to take care of him, Tadano reassured her that he will fine, and in response, Hitomi teasingly asks him not to die. As if on cue, the fever gets massively worse throughout the day, to the point where he can barely stand. Running out of water and needing food, Tadano tries to call Najimi to bring some over. However, he accidentally dials Komi, who is shocked. Not wanting to worry her, Tadano claims he is fine and hangs up, then successfully calls Najimi. Later, the doorbell rings, but when Tadano goes to answer it, he finds not Najimi at the door, but Komi, having become concerned and wanting to help regardless. Despite Tadano not wanting Komi to catch his fever, she lets herself in and tucks him back in bed. There, she serves him some ginger tea she brought with her in a thermos. Komi then prepares some porridge in the kitchen, only to think that Tadano can’t feed himself and tries to do “Here comes the airplane” with him; Tadano sits upright at this and corrects her, flustering them both as Komi hands him the porridge. Once Tadano finishes it, he lays back down in bed and contentedly falls back asleep while Komi cleans up the kitchen. Returning back to the room, she properly tucks him in bed, and then sees that his hand is exposed. Without thinking, she reaches over to hold the hand, when Najimi suddenly bursts in. Komi loses her composure when she realizes what she nearly did, and begins shaking her head to deny anything to Najimi, despite Najimi not having seen anything.
Later that day, after both Komi and Najimi have left, Hitomi comes back home to find Tadano still napping. She then sniffs the air and catches Komi’s scent, only to jump to the conclusion that Tadano brought a girl home.
Just before the credits roll, a preview plays introducing a new character.
