" It's just a performance for the culture festival / It's just festival preparations / It's just flyers distribution / It's just the culture festival eve / It's just maids." is the eleventh episode of the Komi-san wa Komyushou Desu anime series.
Synopsis
The students of class 1-1 have to decide what they will do for the cultural festival—a task they all take way too seriously.
Summary
It's just a performance for the culture festival
Komi's class is undecided about what they want to do for the upcoming culture festival. Each person attempts to leverage their idea by presenting Komi through that lens, and this consequently results in a bunch of ties between people wanting to do all of those things. While trying to restore order, Tadano goes to get Komi’s own opinion, and she confides that she wants to do Najimi‘s suggestion of a maid café. Tadano says this out loud in surprise, and overhearing him, the class unanimously picks the maid cafe.
It's just festival preparations
As everyone starts getting ready, Komi wants to help, but the students put her in a throne and have her sit there while they do the work. One of the girls in the class, Otori Kaede - a girl who is friendly but also naive and constantly spacing out - is entrusted with getting the materials for the festival. Rather than delegating the task as told, Otori decides to go herself and, seeing Komi doing nothing, asks her to come with her. Komi is nervous, but agrees when Onemine volunteers to also join them. While at the hardware store, Otori suddenly wanders off and gets lost. Komi manages to find her, but while they are looking for Onemine, Otori notices that Komi wants to say something. Komi asks her why she invited her to join them for the supply search, and Otori admits that she had always wanted to be Komi’s friend. Touched, Komi reveals to Otori that she had always felt useless to her classmates back in elementary and middle school because her anxiety would always get in the way of her helping at events, and so she felt really happy when Otori asked her for help, only for Otori to undercut the moment by going to pick up a chainsaw. As they are leaving, Otori decides to be Komi’s thirteenth friend, and says they should work very hard for the festival. Komi says out loud, “Okay”.
It's just flyers distribution
Sometime later, Komi, Najimi, and Tadano are tasked with distributing flyers for the festival throughout their town. While Najimi hands out the fliers with their usual ease, Komi struggles to do so. Tadano suggests going to stores where she already has a connection, such as the salon and Ramen Darou, where she is more successful. Eventually, they end their search in a neighborhood, where they encounter the baby and his mother that Komi had seen at the library. As the mother takes the last flier, Komi makes the baby smile again, only for the baby to call her “Koko”, which Najimi and Tadano tease her about afterwards.
It's just the culture festival eve
The class end up exhausting themselves as they work into the night. When they are finally done, Najimi, Onemine, Yamai, and Komi surprise everyone with onigiri to satiate everyone. However, everyone soon begins deliberating over who gets to eat which ones when they realize some of them are Komi's. Though Yamai reveals which one Komi made (while trying to persuade everyone to let her eat them all), everyone eventually settles it over rock-paper-scissors. Tadano seemingly ends up with one of Najimi's - a funky one shaped like a cube - and finds it delicious. However, it is soon revealed to be one that Komi made while trying to imitate Najimi's style, and she is elated to see Tadano like it so much, which Onemine notices.
It's just maids
The culture festival eventually gets under way. A local, Akado Tatsuhito that claims himself to be a maid cafe connoisseur, is one of its patrons. Internally, he lightly criticizes the amateur decor, but is satisfied by the "archetypes" of each of the maids: the bubbly one (Najimi), the chunibyo (Nakanaka), the klutz (Agari), and the one with attitude problems (Yamai). However, Akado is soon encountered by Komi, who nervously gives him water and accidentally spills some on him. He misinterprets her anxiety as anger for having eyed the girls, and once he finishes his meal, he begins to leaves in shame. However, thinking he is criticizing her, Komi tries to apologize, but fails. Akado concludes Komi is a kuudere.
Later, after Komi keeps complaining that her dress is too short, Najimi takes the dress and forces Tadano to wear it with a wig. A humiliated Tadano keeps wearing the costume as the other boys in the class (and Komi) are secretly turned on by it. Soon, Shuuko and Shousuke come by, with the former pleased at the service but baffled at Tadano, and the latter fawned over by the girls so much that he leaves. Hitomi also comes by and takes a picture of Tadano "cross-dressing" and sends it to their mom. While on a break, Komi admits she finds Tadano cute, embarrassing him further as well as herself.
