Invitation to Lunch is the eightieth chapter of Tomohito Oda's Komi Can't Communicate.
Summary
The narrator tells us the beautiful qualities of Komi Shouko, comparing her presence to a queen or even a goddess. However, at the end of the day, even someone like her can get up late and skip breakfast.
Today, Katai Makoto plans to invite Tadano Hitohito to have lunch in order to impress his communication master. Katai approaches, and when he was going to invite Tadano, he forgets what he was going to say. Tadano assumes in his mind that Katai wanted to have lunch together, but on Makoto's wave of thoughts, he ends up asking to follow him in a rude way, which makes Katai feel upset as he messed up again. However, Tadano decides to follow him.
When they sat down, Katai was excited to eat with a friend, but he realized that a worried Komi was watching them. He got the wrong idea that Komi was there to tell him that he had to have fun and bond with Tadano. After a failed attempt at conversation initiated by Tadano, he fed Tadano to show his “closeness” to Komi, but Komi only grew her confusion and concern.
He approached Tadano and grabbed his arm after putting in practice a book he read before, but he only got Tadano feeling uncomfortable, much to his own dismay. Komi thinking that Katai was extorting Tadano wanted to intervene, but she was too afraid to do it, Katai on his side wanted Komi to intervene, but with no success, which left a chaos in the ambiance.
Tadano told him that he doesn't have to try hard, encouraging him to act normal as he's fine with it, leaving a warming scene in between both, much to Komi's confusion.
Tadano realizes that Komi was hiding after her stomach growled, inviting her to eat along with Katai, which she shyly agreed. Tadano introduces Katai to Komi, suggesting that they could get along well, and while he was talking, Najimi Osana appears to cover his mouth from talking, suggesting to leave them interact as it's fun this way.
The four ended up having lunch together.
