Hard Worker is the four hundred eighty-eighth chapter of Tomohito Oda's Komi Can't Communicate.
Summary
The chapter shows the definition of "hikikomori" and how it might affect on persons who are usually shut in as is the case with Hiki Komorebi who is now doing her best at trying to live alone in the city and greeting people which is not her strength.
After a failed attempt to greet some kindergarteners who greeted her first, she arrived to school and greet her friend Shujo Susumi as well as her classmates. For the rest of the day, Hiki could notice how Susumi was distant to her as she was always hanging out with her fellow classmates but not her. making Hiki question herself if something is wrong.
Her concern made her open 3 options that were: "Step aside from her as Shujo found funnier friends", "apologize if Hiki did something wrong" or "hole up as she always does". After denying third option, she went for the fourth, "to act out a stupid play of words", making her feel the urge to die after she made a fool of herself, but Susumi countered the bad joke with another bad pun.
After school, Komorebi explains her situation to Susumi, commenting how she considers Shujo not just as her only friend, but a person who she cherishes, and how she now wants to give her best as Hiki doesn't want to give up on everything anymore because she has her.
After Susumi complained about her past action, asking if Komorebi will do bad jokes to the rest besides her, which Hiki denies and only did it because she likes Susumi, which makes her feel flattered as she also says that she likes Komorebi as well which makes her feel happy, much for Shujo's surprise.
Susumi thinks to herself that this is indeed a love confession, and as it's now requited, they are now dating out of sudden, making her feel utterly happy.
However, all those thoughts vanishes after she asked Hiki for a kiss, which makes her feel confused as why they would do that in the first place, making Susumi rectify this as it was a misunderstanding.
