The Speeder is a speed boat that has appeared in most games, starting with Grand Theft Auto III. To date, the Speeder has appeared in both the 3D Universe and the HD Universe. It is manufactured by Pegassi in the HD Universe.
Influence
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
The Speeder is designed as a classic speed boat, closely based on the Coeur 290 Nighthawk and the Cherubini Classic 20.
Design
3D Universe
Throughout the 3D Universe, the Speeder is generally depicted as a low-profile speedboat with a modern and sporty appearance, as well as with a large cockpit with four seats. Depending of the game, the boat assumes different designs:
- In Grand Theft Auto III, the Speeder seems to be designed by Rockstar themselves, sharing no resemblance to any real-life boat. It has a curved windscreen and a large compartment over the engine bay, as well as small jets/nozzles on the rear. It spawns in a white colour for most of the body, with the stripes on the hull, most of the cockpit and the stripe over the tall compartment on the engine bay being painted with a secondary colour (which alternates between blue and red).
- In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the Speeder assumes a rather realistic design, closely resembling the Haines Signature 1700S. It retains most of the features from the previous model, but the frontal area of the cockpit is more square-shaped and gains a few details on the stern, being an intake on the engine compartment and small antennas on either side, along with propellers below. The GTA San Andreas rendition is further improved with a glass windscreen on the cockpit, small cleats on the gunwales and quad exhausts on either side of the tall engine compartment, as well as split vents on the rear portion. In GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, it spawns in a white primary colour for most of the body with a secondary colour for most of the hull and cockpit, while in GTA San Andreas, it spawns in a white primary colour for most of the body with a secondary colour for part of the hull and the inner portions of the cockpit.
- In Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, the Speeder appears to resemble a Sunseeker XS 2000, though with a rather short stern/rear section. The boat features a long bow with a single rail and a small hatch in the centre, while the cockpit is smaller and features a rounded windscreen. The engine bay features two small vents and a single antenna, while small jets/nozzles can be seen on the rear end. The boat spawns in a white primary colour, with the stripes on the hull, the wide stripe on the deck and the portion around being painted with the secondary colour.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
In Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the Speeder seems to be based on the model featured in GTA San Andreas, distinguished by the engine intake on the rear and the general windscreen profile, as well as the antenna on the back. Because of the perspective of the game the occupant's area seems to be smaller, as Huang sits almost on the middle of the boat.
The boat spawns in a variety of colours for most of the body, with the portion on the engine compartment being white.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
Returning to Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online with the Beach Bum Update, the Speeder features a long hull and a wooden finish on the upper portions, a metal reinforcement on the end of the bow, tall hand rails around the deck and small cleats near the windscreen, as well as the Pegassi emblem on the end of the deck and "Speeder" badges on either side of the bow. Small docking cleats and silver/chrome frames can be seen on the gunwales near the cabin quarters and the engine bay.
The cabin quarters feature a large windscreen on the front with silver/chrome trim and a wooden finish on the front quarter frames, which mount small circular lamps that are similar to the spotlights seen on Police Cruisers. Most of the interior of the cabin has a wooden finish and features a black dashboard with the corresponding controls on the left, an unusable door on the right that leads to a living space, and a small cabinet on the far right. The seats are finished in white leather and arranged in a way that the captain sits in an independent bucket seat on the left side, and the passengers on a C-shaped bench seat. In the enhanced version, the boat uses analogue "Truck" dials also shared with other boats.
Towards the stern, the engine bay has a sectioned wooden cover in the centre with a white leather outline and various steps whose upper surfaces also have a wooden finish, while small circular details can be seen on the rear end, finished in silver/chrome. "Pegassi" markings can seen on the sides of the stern, as well as a "Speeder" badge on the rear end. The propulsion system can be seen below.
The boat is painted with a primary colour for the hull and most of the occupant's area.
Performance
3D Universe
Designed as a lean watercraft, the Speeder is a good boat in terms of handling and speed, being the fastest boat in Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, the third fastest in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and the fourth fastest in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. All renditions share the same performance, according to the files, and use twin inboard engines with identical sounds with other boats in their respective games.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online
In Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, the Speeder has very good top speed and acceleration, being able to compete with other boats in the same class, such as the Jetmax and Dinghy, and also being able to outrun Police Predators with relative ease.
The Speeder is powered by twin inboard engines with Z-drive propellers. It appears to use a higher-pitched variation of the one used on the Jetmax.

Oversights
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
- On the floor of the cabin, on the portion ahead of the front seat, there appears to be a distorted "Speeder" badge.
Trivia
General
- "Speeder" is derived from the word "Speed", which alludes the general description of the vehicle of being a speedboat.
- The name could be also a reference to a type of drug. Possibly, both the Speeder and the Reefer are boats named after drugs, therefore implied in these illegal activities.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
- In the BradyGames guide for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the possible beta name for the Speeder was the "Ambassador", as seen through one of the images in the guide.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online
- In the original version, the GPS appears to have the Liberty City map from Grand Theft Auto IV. This is due to the fact that the interior was reused from the GTA IV boats, particularly the Police Predator. In the enhanced version, however, the GPS screen is blank.
